The Outdoor Discovery Center (ODC) at Mountain Air is seeking a year-round, part-time Outdoor Center Host. The ideal candidate has a background in science/nature education or outdoor recreation and is an enthusiastic nature lover. This organized team member keeps a small nature program and outdoor center running smoothly. ODC Hosts are both administrators and educators. They bring enthusiastic customer service to our guests and administrative efficiency to our nature program.

Mountain Air is a unique, high-elevation, private development in Burnsville, NC. It supports a small nature program for adults and children. Applicants must be comfortable and confident working in a country club environment.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES

- Service-oriented, friendly, engaging, "people person"

- Nature enthusiast

- Familiar with southern Appalachian flora and fauna, particularly mammals, birds, wildflowers, and trees

- Eager teacher and learner with boundless curiosity

- Speaks carefully and effectively

- Experience with and aptitude for computer-based work in general

- Experience with and aptitude for managing organizational systems, on and off computers

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software

- Enthusiasm for and experience with basic graphic design concepts

- Wholehearted advocate for outdoor recreation

- Ability to work consistently well with no supervision

- Appreciation for high service standards

- Ability to operate a retail point-of-sale system

- Comfortable working in a country club/resort environment

- Pro-active problem solver

- Enthusiastic team player

- Pays attention to detail in written, spoken, and graphic communication

- Can hike at least 3 miles on rough trails

- Comfortable when handling reptiles (resident corn snake and 2 turtles)

- Familiar with western NC geography

- Confident when talking with small groups of adults and children

- Possesses a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and has reliable transportation (the daily commute includes a 1,500' elevation gain on Mtn. Air property).

- Can multi-task under pressure

- Has excellent judgment when handling new or unexpected situations

EDUCATION:

- Required: High School diploma

- Appreciated: Associate or bachelor's degree in a natural science, education, or administrative field
