Paid Smallpox Vaccine Research Study (Rochester)

New York, Rochester 00000 Rochester USA

Vacancy caducado!

Smallpox Vaccine Research Study

About the Study:

For centuries, smallpox killed millions of people around the world. In 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the successful eradication of smallpox thanks to an effective worldwide vaccination program. However, did you know the threat of smallpox still exists through bioterrorism and remote possibility of natural re-emergence? Countries around the world are preparing to combat a smallpox outbreak scenario with vaccine stockpiles.

The smallpox vaccine protects people from the life-threatening disease by helping bodies develop immunity to the disease. This is why smallpox vaccine stockpiles are considered necessary as an effective countermeasure against an outbreak scenario. The CDC is collaborating with vaccine manufacturers to make a new, safer vaccine to keep in the stockpile.

Rochester Clinical Research is recruiting healthy adults aged 18-45 to participate in a study looking at one of these vaccines. The research study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine to generate immunity. This study will last approximately 39 weeks with six visits to our office. The study vaccine is freeze dried (not live) which is believed to offer many advantages in terms of prolonging shelf life and storage for stockpiling pre-outbreak, and for potential use in a post-outbreak scenario.

To qualify you must:

Be 18 “ 45 years old

Have no history of receiving a pox-virus based vaccine (this would exclude US military service prior to 1991 or after January 2003)

Not be taking an immune modifying drug

Not be allergic to eggs

Compensation is available up to $475 for time and travel for those who qualify. Health insurance is not required to participate in this study and study-related care is available to participants at no cost.
