The librarian will provide supplemental literature searching support to address the fluctuating demand for literature searches. Applications should be submitted by medical librarians who are experts in retrieving relevant scientific and medical literature using a wide range of medical databases and online information tools. This position will be a part-time teleworking position. The librarian will report to the Supervisor of Technical Services at the Plummer Library located in Rochester, Minnesota.Position descriptionThe Librarian III is a mid-level position in the Masters-prepared professional Librarian series. Under moderate supervision, the Librarian III performs professional level responsibilities encompassing library science, information management, information technology, or library management. Functional job titles may include librarian, informationist, archivist, information specialist, bibliographer or systems librarian. This level demonstrates considerable knowledge of a subject area or professional proficiency in one or more areas. The Librarian III may have supervisory responsibilities within a service area or a branch library; and may have project planning responsibilities. This position may perform work related to public services, technical services, systems or archives. Public services responsibilities may include the provision of professional reference, research and educational services to faculty, staff, students, patients and others. Technical services responsibilities may include acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, database/electronic resource access and/or serials management in support of the Mayo Clinic Library system. Participates on at least one library committee or task force. Occasionally provides input and assists in developing Library policy and decision making to support the Mayo Clinic Library system. May perform other tasks that support services, maintain workload, or provide coverage in the work unit or elsewhere in the Mayo Clinic Library system.QualificationsMasters degree in library science or information management or other Masters or advanced degree pertinent to the position from an accredited graduate program required. Requires a minimum of three years experience as Librarian II or comparable professional library experience.Additional qualificationsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, flexibility and common sense. Commitment to excellent customer service. Commitment to quality improvement. Ability to work well in a team-based and self-directed work environment. Intermediate level knowledge in one or more of the following areas required: leadership and management; library informatics and systems information; information analysis and synthesis; promotion of scholarship and knowledge management through instruction; organization of knowledge; library professionalism.Work experience in a health sciences or scientific research library setting preferred. Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals program of the Medical Library Association at the Member or Senior level preferred.
