I am looking to hire someone to teach my aunt how to use her cell phone, to spend time with my aunt a few days a week, and to visit with her on the days I am unable to be there. She is a lifelong career woman who has had recent health issues but is otherwise independent. This position would be ideal for someone who is a student or is a stay-at-home parent in the neighborhood. Days and times are flexible to your schedule but would need to be twice per week between Monday-Thursday.

Job Responsibilities:

Meet the client in her apartment twice per week, for 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours each visit

Companionship: Talk with the client and spend time together

Create lesson plan for cell phone literacy with goals and homework for in-between visits

Maintain communication about the lesson plans and progress with the clients family

Devote at least ½ hour of each visit to cell phone lessons

Parcel the clients medicine into a daily pill tracker for her

Inform the clients family when the client has not taken her medicine or if medicine is running low

With the client, shop for groceries 1x per week

Prepare home-cooked meals for the client at each visit (to either eat together or for her to eat later)

Check the clients apartment for tripping or other safety hazards and ensure safe environment

Light housekeeping, including care for clothing and bedding

Job Qualifications:

Ability to stand unsupported, bend, and lift 100 lbs safely

Excellent Communication: ability to communicate clearly in English at a loud volume

Expert in Samsung/ Android phones

Able to cook

Available for 1.5 hour increments on weekdays during business hours

Ability to travel to lower Manhattan

Must be trustworthy, prompt, patient and kind: character references required

Preferred Qualifications:

Owning an Android is a plus but not necessary

Understanding of hypertension and its relationship to diet

Demonstrated interest in tutoring or caretaking, including child or eldercare

Interest in politics, antiques, business, or management

First aid/ CPR certification

Home health aide certification

Alumni or current student from these schools: Hunter College, NYU, or Fordham University

Compensation:

$20-30 per hour, depending on experience

This is a part-time position starting at less than 5 hours/ week, with the opportunity for more hours for the right candidate
