FREE RENT IN EXCHANGE FOR WORK!

McGraw House is a 105-unit housing complex for independent Senior Citizens located in downtown Ithaca. We are currently looking for someone to live On-Premises rent-free in exchange for work. The position can be filled by a single individual or two people willing to share the apartment and duties.

On-Premises staff members receive an unfurnished one-bedroom apartment, rent-free in downtown Ithaca. The apartment includes free internet, air conditioning, and one off-street parking space.

In exchange for free rent, On-Premises staff would be asked to perform scheduled work duties on weekday evenings, weekends and holidays, alternating each week with other On-Premises staff who also live on the premises. Scheduled work duties include such things as conducting a security check of the building each night, taking out the garbage/recycling, and light clerical duties.

During a typical month, On-Premises staff perform approximately 10-15 hours of scheduled work in exchange for free rent.

On-Premises staff will also be asked to respond to any unscheduled after-hours emergencies that arise while on duty. After-Hours emergencies include such things as unlocking apartment for residents when they are locked out and responding to maintenance emergencies that occur and cannot wait to be resolved until normal business hours (i.e. water spills, plugged toilets, etc.).

During the winter season, On-Premises staff are also responsible for shoveling snow to clear the sidewalks.

All unscheduled after-hours work will be compensated with a rate of pay equivalent to NYS minimum wage.

The ideal applicant should enjoy people, exercise good judgment, have the ability to respond calmly in an emergency, be honest and trustworthy, and be extremely reliable.
