GHD is actively developing a Future Energy initiative. We are looking to alternative energy generation, distribution, and use projects, across the globe providing our clients with alternatives for clean energy and energy resiliency. These projects include renewable energy, energy storage, waste to energy, power to gas, hydrogen storage and transportation, clean fuels, clean chemical manufacturing, carbon capture, and reduced carbon footprint. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Senior Transmission/Distribution Specialist - Grids who will be responsible for the growth and delivery of cleaner energy alternatives in the U.S. with a line of site into Canada. We are open to all locations in United States for this role, with preference to the Northeast Region, Texas or California. The Senior Transmission/Distribution Specialist - Grids will be the Senior Engineer within the Transmission/ Distribution and guide the team to perform related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise and leadership to solve design problems under minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to be a leader, manage some to all stages of design, perform a variety of routine and complex tasks to solve power utility design problems, effectively communicate within the design and project management team, and provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems to comply with applicable standards, such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Expected expertise in Transmission and Distribution as it relates to implementation of renewables on grids, including consideration of storage, to speak to overall energy systems integration. Drive/lead the company's Transmission and Distribution Step-up Initiative to establish the team as one of the top service providers in the US and foster collaboration across different operating centers. The vision being to extend out to a truly global "One GHD" with collaborative ventures with UK, Canadian, and Australian offices. Hold experience in the energy sector with expertise in high voltage transmission and distribution systems from 15 to 500 kV. Responsibilities: Client Builds on previous client relationships to provide opportunities and support Business Group development Serves as the client manager for key clients and develops/executes associated client engagement plans Actively participates in professional and/or industrial organizations to promote the GHD brand Promotes and collaborates in the development of innovative project delivery methods Responsible for preparing, negotiating and winning significant multidisciplinary and complex energy projects for the company. Win repeat business through delivering on projects Ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner. People Collaborates with Global, North American and Regional Market Leaders, Client Resource Managers, Service Line Leaders, and Client Sector Leaders to achieve excellent business outcomes Finds and attracts strategic hires to the Business Group. Develops and mentors rising talent within the Business Group. Participates in the onboarding and training of new staff. Works with project directors, managers, and teams to establish and improve Business Group job delivery skills. Possess the ability to effectively communicate inadequacies in information provided by others and offer recommendations to comply with applicable design and safety codes Responsible for providing leadership in technical areas and project management for the group including planning, design, plant specification, tender negotiation/award over a large spectrum of Transmission and Distribution projects Performance Ability to drive multiple projects Pre-positions for projects, develops opportunities, and obtains RFPs Develops responses accurately and efficiently to RFPs, scope of work packages, budgets, and progress reports teams to provide successful and technically sound project deliveries to meet and exceed client and GHD requirements in support of company commitment to quality. Drives financial performance with respect to contribution; monitors, tracks, and manages opportunities, backlog, utilization, AR/DSO, variances, and markups. Manages, mitigates, and reports on risks within the Business Group. Adheres to GHD Management Systems for Safety, Integrity, Quality, and Environment. Drives positive client interaction, as verified through client surveys Promote a safe work environment within the company and facilitating safety workshops for staff and ensuring group's compliance with OSH and QA processes What you will bring to the table: Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical 15+ years of related experience Registered Professional Engineer Preparation of technical specifications, contract management and supervision of projects for high voltage substations rated from 11 kV up to 500 kV Physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material Protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.) Other areas of involvement may include: relay settings, 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria Our commitment to you Fostering gender balance, diversity and acceptance of flexible working is central to the way GHD does business.
