Assistant Director Opportunity

Mountain Kids! is an outdoor education and adventure program for children ages 5-16 years of age now entering its twelfth year of getting kids outside in the Sangre de Christo Mountains in Santa Fe.

Camp activities are all outdoors and experiential, and include hiking, games, team building activities, nature awareness games, arts and crafts, and imaginative play. We also offer backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking, nature knowledge, primitive & wilderness skills to campers.

We offer a low adult:child ratio for a quality experience in nature. Weekly staff meetings and a supportive environment aim to create a cohesive and harmonious staff team where everyone can learn and grow.

Successful Assistant Director applicant has a proven track record in the following:

Superior organization and administration skills

Excellent judgment and ability to handle the unexpected

Excellent problem-solving skills and flexibility

Excellent communication skills with parents, children, and staff

Experience managing groups of children and coordinating logistics

Excellent computer skills with knowledge of a variety of software (Google, Microsoft Word and Excel).

Knowledge of Active, Mail Chimp and/or Facebook and Instagram an asset

Office Duties:

Managing all aspects of Registration using Active Enrollment System, email, phone

Planning Summer 2020 Activities with Director and other Staff

Plan Staff Training with Director

Assist with Staff selection and onboarding

Plan and Confirm guest speakers & field trip locations, dates, and times

Communicate with parents and children via weekly pre and post-camp emails

General Office Work - filing, ordering supplies, organizing, mailing

Preparing, organizing and ordering camp supplies

Preparing paperwork for each week of camp

Highest Priority Candidates also meet the qualifications for Counselor:

Experienced outdoors person with knowledge of mountain hazards and preparedness

Experience and love of working with children, high energy level, excellent group management skills

Strong communication and organization skills

Creative, team player “ able to plan and implement camp curriculum with other leaders

Excellent problem solving skills, flexibility and able to think on his/her feet

Willingness to take initiative “

Planning weekly activities with provided outline

Marketing Duties (additional duties, for the right candidate):

Create and send newsletter (with provided content)

Create and schedule social media posts “ some provided content

Research additional content: CNN, NOLS, etc.

PR: Press Releases to local papers

Print and Distribute postcards and flyers throughout community.

Market New Teen program

Manage Tumbleweeds and other Advertising opportunities

Proficiency in MailChimp, Wordpress, Facebook and Instagram required

Successful candidates require references and a background check.
