FirefighterDescriptionThisis a NASA Test, Evaluation and Support contract position.Successfulcandidate will be responsible for providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) orBasic Life Support (BLS) and safe, efficient transportation of ill or injuredsubjects to receiving Hospitals by ambulance.Must be able to respond to alarms and emergency situations, whichinclude structural firefighting, removal of people from potentially dangeroussituations, rendering emergency medical assistance, and responding to hazardousmaterials emergencies.Firefighter willoperate tools and equipment typically associated with firefighting duties,perform daily inspections of firefighting equipment, conduct salvageoperations, conduct fire inspections, identify hazards associated withmaterials and construction features, demonstrate emergency medical techniquesfor lifesaving, attend daily drills and meetings, perform fire stationmaintenance to include cleanliness. Must be able to operate fire departmentvehicles as required.Perform all othernormal duties typically associated with being a firefighter and the directionsof management or lead personnel.Must beable to wear a breathing apparatus and pass a physical exam.Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRETsecurity clearance.Must submit toemployment and random drug screening tests. Must pass a written examination forfirefighters.QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent is required.Must have in possession a current EMT-B or Advanced EMT (Intermediate) Licensefrom the State of New Mexico and provide evidence of such. Preference will be given to NM EMT-Papplicants meeting the same requirements as listed but also have in possessionevidence of current EMS Bureau approved current PALS, ACLS, BLS, and PHTLScertification. All applicants must possessa current Driver’s License and certification to NFPA – 1001 (NM/IFSACFirefighter I). Applicants must also meet the current requirements of aNASA/WSTF Firefighter.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITIONMust pass a physical agility entry test forfirefighters. Positions may involveextended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, use of stairs, and access to remotestructures. Typically required to drag upto 185 pounds a minimum of 100 feet.DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENTPosition is located on a hazardous testing facility operatedby NASA. Employees must comply with allNASA and company safety guidelines and policies. Firehouse (indoors) and field work (outdoors)is required. Must be able to travel toother work areas, be aware of safety requirements for those areas, and workwithin those constraints (e.g. access procedures and proper PPE). Walking on uneven terrain including pavedareas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations onthe facility.EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKSComputer work will be required. Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner,telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment isrequired. Use of equipment and machinerytypically associated with firefighting and hazardous materials is required.CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCERegular attendance and punctuality as scheduled isrequired. Overtime may be required asdetermined by management or customer needs.OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMust be able tocommunicate effectively with individuals at all levels of theorganization. Must exhibit professionalbehavior in all interaction with peers/management and with customers. Must work well under pressure to meetdeadlines. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safetyrisk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Companypolicies. Occasional travel may berequired. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must be able to pass a physical examination as determined by the NASAWhite Sands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification.
