Develop data-driven approaches and infrastructure to inform and accelerate product innovation, product design, and product development

Work with cross-functional teams to gather, wrangle, cleanse, structure, and build models that are distributed to the greater R&D team and aligned with organizational goals.

Apply data analytics to enable new revenue-generating business models and improve underlying business processes for cost savings.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Apply a depth of knowledge about statistics and artificial intelligence to recommend preferred approaches to team members for solving analytics problems

Write and implement custom algorithms that apply advanced statistical techniques and/or artificial intelligence algorithms to address identified business needs.

Lead the design, development and implement new platforms and APIs for data analysis for use by the broader data analytics team.

Manage cloud resources for analytics pipelines and ensure that the appropriate frameworks and technologies are being implemented. Drive continuous improvement and make recommendations for more efficient ways to perform analytics on large data sets.

Stay abreast of current best-practices in the data analytics community and promote best-practices within Colgate.

Develop production-ready code to implement automated ETL processes analytics pipelines as micro-services within a cloud environment

Write and implement custom code for web scraping, social media mining, and associated data ingestion and pre-processing

Write and implement custom code to extract data from internal systems and perform associated data engineering/cleansing

Develop, validate, and implement programmatic approaches for data visualization, descriptive statistical analysis, and predictive modeling. Ensure that all data analysis meets agreed-upon standards for statistical confidence.

Support, train, and assist global R&D scientists via meetings, training sessions, and mentorship to aid the adoption of data analytics tools.

Stay up-to-date on external advances in the data analytics field and share knowledge with team members

Maintain intimate knowledge of current processes and pipelines for the data analytics team and advise on continuous improve opportunities

Ensure team adherence to guidelines regarding programming language, programming paradigm, and code architecture.

Work with individuals throughout R&D and IT to find key data sources, assess quality, and devise strategies for analysis.

Design data flows to extract data from organizational architecture and ETL into data warehouses. Write production-ready code to automate these processes.

Build advanced data visualizations including dashboards and custom D3 implementations and oversee the construction of data visualizations by subordinates

Perform due-diligence assessment of potential outside analytics and software vendors

Support outside vendors and extract deliverables

Share knowledge with immediate data science team through regular presentations of progress, struggles, and advances. Promote best practices and lead by example.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree completed.

Minimum 10 years of Programming Experience is required.

Preferred:

Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science is required. Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Data Science is preferred

Consumer Goods Industry Experience.

Certification in Data Science or programming.

Active contributor to open-source data science projects such as Kaggle competitions.

External publications or presentations.

Relevant peer-reviewed publications or patent applications.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Advanced proficiency in multiple programming languages and computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, computability/complexity, and computer architecture

Advanced proficiency with probability and statistics: Formal characterization (conditional probability, Bayes' rule, likelihood, independence) and techniques derived from it (Bayes Nets, Markov Decision Processes, Hidden Markov Models)

Advanced proficiency in software engineering and systems design including requirements analysis, system design, modularity, REST APIs, version control, testing, and documentation

Statistical and data mining techniques including generalized linear model/regression, random forest, boosting, trees, text mining, social network analysis, dimensionality reduction algorithms

Advanced proficiency with machine learning techniques such as clustering, decision tree learning, naïve Bayes, support vector machines, Q-learning, temporal difference, adversarial networks, neural networks, and custom implementations of optimization algorithms including gradient descent

Advanced proficiency with frameworks including TensorFlow, Theano, CNTK, scikit-learn, Caffe, Keras, Spark MLlib

Advanced proficiency with distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Gurobi, etc

Visualizing and presenting data for stakeholders using: D3, plotly, seaborn, ggplot

Advanced proficiency with SQL implementations (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB)

Excellent oral and written English communication skills
