Peer Support Specialist

Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a person with lived experience with mental illness to work in conjunction with the Mobile Crisis Team, providing community-based interventions for people experiencing a mental health crisis.

The hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 4pm - 12am.

As a Peer Support Specialist, you will be working with clinicians in conducting initial assessments and coordinating follow-up care, and providing specific types of recovery-oriented support to individuals in crisis and their families.

If you have lived experience with mental illness, can work independently and as part of a team, and have sensitivity to people of diverse backgrounds and cultures, this is a great opportunity to apply all that you have learned to enhance your own independence while helping others.

Responsibilities

Help clients and families understand the systems of care available to them in the community

Provide clients with support and advocacy in accessing the care they need

Work independently and as part of a professional clinical team

Partner with a range of treatment providers and agencies

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent, relevant degree preferred

Lived experience with mental illness, and the ability to meet the essential requirements of the job.

Participation in a five-day peer support training program, learning about the systems of care available in the community and how to help Riverbend clients effectively access them

Ability to sensitively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures

Flexible scheduling, and the ability to work between 8 and 30 hours per week. Availability for night, weekend and non-traditional hours required.

A valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance, preferred

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the world, it is our responsibility to help keep our staff, clients, and communities safe.

At Riverbend, we have implemented processes and precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. All staff are following a screening protocol prior to entering any facility as well as recording their temperature before starting work.

All staff are required to wear face masks when in common areas of our facilities or when in close proximity to any other individual.

Riverbend provides personal protective equipment (PPE) to staff appropriate for their type of service delivery. We are taking all necessary precautions for any in-person service delivery.

Riverbend takes great care to ensure that frequently touched surfaces are being sanitized throughout the day, ventilation systems are functioning at optimal levels for maximum air circulation and quality per CDC guidelines, and each location is fully sanitized daily.
