Requirements
Must be 16 year or older, 18 years or older to work with kids one on one. Must have a desire and attitude to work with children of all ages in small or large group settings.
Preferred 2-3 years of some type of camp experience, whether as a leader-in-training, counselor-in-training, or as a counselor elsewhere. Counselors are expected to have good communication, organizational, and creative skills.
Training
All staff are required to be CPR/First Aid certified. Other training through our insurance company is provided once certification is completed.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a group of 15-30 campers, acting as guardian, friend, disciplinarian, and counselor to all kids
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment for his/her campers, while also following all
Camp and YMCA rules/policies
- Conduct small group, value-oriented, exercises on a daily basis whereby each camper can grow physically, mentally, and socially
- Apply proper discipline in a caring manner, conducting yourself properly while participating in all required activities with enthusiastic attitude
- Assist director and permanent staff to ensure a safe and memorable experience for each camper
- Familiarize yourself with and implement pre-planned activities
- Attend all pre-camp meetings, training, and orientations while making yourself available for all other related dates, activities, and camp events.

The role of Counselor is the most important job at YMCA Day Camp. Successful completion of all required duties/expectations will ensure that the experience of all campers will be safe and positive. Day Camp is an important element in the fulfillment of the YMCA’s mission to help build spirit, mind, and body for all campers.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Salary: $10.00 to $15.00 /hour
