SummaryThe LPN is expected to perform the functions of a licensed practical/vocational nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating all assigned patient care in collaboration with a professional nurse. The incumbent is accountable for all patient care he/she gives and is responsible for adhering to all standards of nursing practices, policies and procedures. The incumbent is to exercise technical judgment independently and requires minimal or no guidance and direction.ResponsibilitiesDuties of this position will include but are not limited to: Incumbent will identify, initiate, and actively participates in safety and emergency measures related to patient internal and external issues. He/she will responds appropriately in accordance to medical center regulations. Documents observations and information related to patient care via computer per policy and procedure. The LPN is responsible for upholding the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Service. Maintains a safe environment while employing safe practices (e.g., body mechanics, PPE) compliant with all rules and regulations as defined and mandated by the safety policies of the Medical Center. Completes all required basic education requirements for LPN's. Attends in-services, staff meetings and mandatory clinical competencies (CCC). Seeks and identifies personal learning needs. The incumbent LPN will communicate and interact in a professional manner with all internal and external customers. He/she will provide timely feedback in addressing issues while utilizing all services for satisfying goals. He/she will maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information in accordance with policies and procedures of the Medical Center. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. Education. Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or [accredited by] the National League for Nursing [Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)] at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Licensure. Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Assignments of licensed practical and vocational nurses at all grade levels, including entry grade levels, are dependent upon the validation of competence to perform clinical procedures and certification of such competencies via either educational programs or on-the-job training. The candidate's qualifications must clearly demonstrate the level of competence required for the grade. In addition to the basic requirements stated above, the following qualification criteria must be met for each grade. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-5 to GS-6. The Professional Standards Boards (a peer-review group) will recommend the grade and salary for new appointments. For internal selectees being promoted, the board will determine grade and HR will determine step in accordance with policy.
