JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

Bachelor’s degree in education preferred; Two years successful undergraduate work required

Work experience in fields related to project objectives

Prefer background similar to that of project participants; Ability to relate to low-income and first-generation populations from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds

Superb managerial skills coupled with maturity, dependability and thoroughness

Demonstrated success as a college student, along with ability to provide tutoring in academic and study skills areas; Ability to hold participants accountable for grade goals and a step-by-step approach to attain those goals

Public relations skills for a variety of publics

Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation of services

JOB SUMMARY : The Student Services Coordinator is a nine month part time position, responsible to the Associate Director for the delivery of support services to project participants in area target schools.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Administrative

To coordinate support staff in the implementation of weekly tutoring sessions

To provide written reports as requested to the Director and Associate Director

To assist, as needed, with student selection, college visits and other UB activities

Direct Services

To implement a prescriptive academic program designed to meet each participant’s needs as a college-bound student

To safely transport participants and staff to meeting centers in area schools

To conduct tutorial / support sessions providing educational / career / personal advising

To assist participants in ACT preparation, securing college admission, and financial aid for his / her institution of choice

To lead small group activities i.e., values clarification, decision making, time management, and study skills activities

To develop and implement trouble-shooting strategies for participant academic success

Public Relations

To function as liaison between Upward Bound and the publics it serves i.e., University, community, parents and area school districts

To confer, as needed, with teachers, counselors and administrators in an effort to define and address participant needs

To maintain cooperative relationships with parents and target school personnel

To assure the responsible utilization of University and area school resources i.e., travel procedures, vehicle usage, maintenance of facilities provided by target schools

Recordkeeping

To maintain clear and accurate records

To correspond with participants as necessary to assure each participant is current with paperwork and responsibilities toward the project
