Per Mississippi School Nurse Procedures and Standards of Care Guidelines, the registered nurse performs procedures for diagnosis, treatment, referrals and patient education. The registered nurse assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients. The registered nurse assists with the setup of TeleHealth medical equipment for telemedicine consultations with the providers at USM Moffitt Health Center. The registered nurse participates in organizational improvement and teamwork. The registered nurse maintains office services by organizing office operations and procedures. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Supports the mission of the University and Health Center, practices universal precautions, maintains confidentiality, and follows code of medical ethics. Adheres to Mississippi School Nurse Procedures and Standards of Care Guidelines.

Performs intake interviews, which includes taking history of present illness and vital signs. Documents all activities, including telephone calls. Provides patient education as needed. Assists with examinations, basic treatments, and diagnostic screenings using the TeleHealth technology. Measures peak flows and pulse oximetry. Makes and documents referrals as needed.

Administers oral and parenteral medications, immunizations/injections, and nebulization treatments per physician orders. Assists in the collection of blood, urine, and other body fluids samples. Monitors the environment for hazards and infection control.

Maintains supplies and equipment for use in patient care. Participates in planning for safe patient care. Maintains office services by organizing office operations and procedures. Can include: tracking expenditures, scheduling and assigning employees, and maintaining office efficiency by planning and implementing office systems and layouts.

Participates in committees and performance improvement activities to ensure that quality healthcare is provided. Assists in planning and subsequent implementation of on-campus health initiatives and campaigns.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications BSN degree or equivalent and one to two years related clinical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Unrestricted Mississippi RN Licensure, Current Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certifications.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge and proficiency of all Microsoft applications.

Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to be compassionate and empathetic while working with a diverse population.

Must demonstrate adaptability and persistence while working with individuals, their treatment plans and University students.

Must maintain currency on relevant research, professional certifications and continuing education.

Must demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and be discreet when dealing with confidential matters.

Must be detail orientated and timely with all required notes, files and documentation.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises interns, student workers or graduate assistants as needed to support campus and office operations.
