We have an immediate need for a Composites Technician. My client does everything in house from building their own tooling and then building parts/components off of that tooling. They are doing Navy ships, submarines and some work for the Army. They work a 9/80 schedule. They encourage multiple talents and the production is never the same. They work on a lot of R&D type products so people dont get bored from nuclear craft submarines to Navy landing craft to components. They currently have 20 different programs going on.

Function of Job:

Under general supervision of designated supervisor fabricate and prepare for finishing, various wood, composition and composite structures, and fixtures for manufacturing of various assemblies / tooling. Able to use basic hand tools, read a ruler, read drawings and follow the directions of the Composite Manufacturing Team Leads.

Cut, shape, and assemble wood, composition, and/or composite material using shop tools, and equipment such as planners, shaper, routers, skill saw, table saw, etc.

Support the fabrication of all tooling required to manufacture composite components.

Assemble prepared components for various structures, including shipping crates, tooling, skids and any components needed in the manufacturing process.

Prepare structures for finish applications by plaining, shaping and sanding; using hand and power tools.

Read and interpret plans, sketches, and shop drawings for milling and fabrication.

Work closely with Composite Technicians and Engineering Team to assist in the building of composite components.

Prepare molds for room temperature or heat cured lay-ups

Lay-up fiberglass, carbon fiber or any combination of materials in a mold with the use of manufacturing instructions.

Cut, trim, fit and drill components using specialized hand /bench tools and measuring devices.

Maintain and clean equipment and work area.

May perform work of carpenter as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Will be cross trained as a composite technician if needed in the fabrication of composite parts.

Prepreg experience not required but a bonus.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

Trade school graduation, or equivalent, and four years of experience as finish carpenter, boat builder, or cabinet maker.

Knowledge of shop practices and skill in using shop tools and equipment.

Skill in cabinet making, composite manufacturing or complex fabrication.

Ability to read blueprints and translate into fabricated products.

Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform related duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy lifting.

Valid motor vehicle operators license if required.

Standing 90% of the day.

Work with composite material such as resin systems, carbon and fiberglass.
