Overview
Assist residents with personal care, mobility to and from the dining room and life enrichment activities. Encourage residents and support their chosen life style, ensuring a safe and enjoyable living environment.
Medication Administration Persons (MAPs) also perform overall medication administration, measurement of related vital signs and blood sugars, simple treatments and documentation in addition to caregiving duties.
Responsibilities
Indicates that this task is considered high risk for exposure to bio-hazardous materials; Universal Standards must be followed in all job duties
Provide care in the following areas according to the resident care sheet and direction of the caregiver supervisor; immediately report to the supervisor when the assignment cannot be completedBathing (showers, tub, bed) and Dressing the residentBowel care-enemas, toileting and documentation of resultsBed makingShaving-double edge razor / electric razor, male / femaleMouth care-teeth, partial plates and denturesEye care-cleansing, and eye glass careEar care-cleansing and hearing aid careIncontinent care-handling of soiled materialsFoley catheter careCleaning of work areas and utensilsHair care-shampoo, set, comb out, styleFoot care, Finger nail care, Skin careMeasurement and document of vital signs and weightsAmbulation and transfer assistance, with or without use of gait beltAssistance of residents at mealtimeMeasurement and documentation of Intake and OutputUse of wheelchairs, walkers and other resident supportive devicesUse of non-restraint devices to maintain resident safetyKind and appropriate behavioral management approachesProper positioning of the residentUse and handling of linen-clean and soiledDying and death care
Medication Administration Persons (MAPs) and AFC Caregivers also :
Perform and document vital signs and blood sugar testing as required related to medications administration
Administer medications as set up and according to the medication administration record (MAR)
Report any deviation from MAR and medication dosing system
Document medication administration information including refusal of routine medications and PRN medication administration
Document resident change in condition on intra shift information clip board / 24 hour resident change of condition sheet
Observe for and report signs and symptoms that might be related to medications or changes in residents’ condition
Complete any assigned caregiver tasks
Assist caregivers as able to ensure resident care is excellent at all times
Assist residents at meal time and report any ongoing dietary problems
Perform minor treatments including application of therapeutic creams and simple dressing changes
Respond to emergencies and assists supervisor with management of the sameService oxygen tanks including cleaning filters, change water bottles twice a week according to schedule
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experienced in caregiving and working with elders
