Since 1956 Doug Russell Marine has been a staple in the marine and boating industry. We're located on Route 20 in Worcester and looking to add a motivated full-time member to our service department team.

Overview: The service manager is vital to the overall service business of Doug Russell Marine. The Service Manager is the resident expert on writing repair orders along with managing/directing work of the service technicians to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.

Position Summary: The Service Manager directs and coordinates all repair, outfitting and rework/rebuild operations for the organization. The service manager will analyze and respond to customer requests and complaints regarding repair or rework of goods the organization sells, provide cost estimates, ensure sufficient resources to make repairs or rework parts, schedule work, and invoice customers. In addition, they measure and analyze and report to their supervisor on work performed and recommend improvements to service processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Discuss problems with customers and complete a repair order following standards established by management. Ensure customer signs the repair order authorizing the evaluation and/or repairs

- Order diagnostic testing prior to actual repair or rework

- Document evaluation time and delivery date using Company designated software, ensure the customer signs the repair order before work starts

- Order parts and supplies necessary for technicians to complete repair orders

- Address complaints and resolve problems raised by customers; assures clients of maximum efficiency and productivity in repair and maintenance services offered

- Coordinates repair / rework / maintenance for service personnel based on factors such as operational performance, costs of operation and maintenance, operational safety, and compliance with environmental laws and regulations in order to obtain optimum utilization of personnel and equipment to prevent or alleviate operational delays. When delays do occur, notify supervisor

- Handle customer complaints, questions, and concerns

- Proposes modifications to service processes and/or materials to improve efficiency and/or lower costs

- Develop reports on service operations and present to management

- Responsible to keep the equipment, garage and storage facilities clean and maintained.

- Assure service personnel work in accordance to organizations policies and other applicable laws and regulations.

- Responsible to counsel employees under their supervision periodically and when work improvement is necessary. Provides and annual evaluation to each person they supervise. - Ability to terminate employment of those employees who dont meet organization standard showing dignity and respect while doing so.

- Keep management informed of equipment, materials, supplies, and parts required to maintain facilities for repair and storage operations

- Report all work related injuries to supervisor

- Seek ways to reduce potential hazards in the workplace, when unable to resolve, notify supervisor about the problem and actions

- Ensure proper personal protective equipment is serviceable, readily available and used appropriately

- Train staff on emergency procedures

- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge and Skills:

- Bachelors degree or extensive work experience

- Excellent oral and written communication

- Process and understanding of human resource principles

- Understanding of supervisory requirements

- Ability to handle customer complaints, questions, and concerns

- Ability to develop reports, and explain them

- Be proficient in the company software to document and track repair orders.

- Ability to think on your feet and multitask.

- Ability to adapt to and drive change in a constantly evolving environment.

- Strong problem-solving skills.

- Be proficient in oral and written communication

- Have a general working knowledge of OSHA requirements

Working Conditions:

- Working conditions of the service manager include heavy lifting and performing tasks that may require uncomfortable positions. Although, he is employed in a managerial position, he may sometimes need to help move equipment, supplies and parts.

- Work may need to be performed outside the shop building in rain, snow or hot or cold conditions

- The work week consists of 40 hours, Monday “ Friday, some overtime is expected during high boating season

- Use of personal protective equipment is required. The noise level may get moderately loud and the tasks involved in the job may include working with grease and dirt.

- Will be required to attend training, possibly out of state for a week or two at a time. No more than three times a year.

Organizational Relationships:

- Reports directly to the General Manager.

- Works with, management, sales department, parts department, and technicians.

- Directly supervises service technicians and yard workers. Hires, fires, counsels and evaluates those supervised.
