Our Life Sciences Solutions User R​​​esearch Group provides insights into products, workflows, and the scientific landscape, offering an understanding of consumer behavior while identifying actionable opportunities and optimizing the customer experience. Using qualitative and quantitative methodologies, user experience researchers engage with customers to discover unmet needs, identify areas of improvement, and document current successes in products today while also uncovering opportunities for tomorrow. ​

How will you make an impact?Successful candidates will have experience in managing user research programs and a proven track record of improving usability through user centered design. Candidates should also be knowledgeable about ergonomics, and experience in "medical or lab settings is required". The User Researcher is expected to work with minimal supervision, to exert initiative, and support team members on assigned projects.What will you do?

Act as senior researcher and lead on user research programs. Work with stakeholders to understand project objectives, identify when user and design research should be conducted, and determine appropriate research methods, including but not limited to ethnographic research, focus groups, and usability testing.

Develop and deploy research plans, including participant recruitment, testing logistics and protocol. Conduct and manage testing, independently or with a project team.

Conduct and/or manage data processing. Analyze and synthesize user research and define appropriate functionality and product requirements to drive short term wins or future re-designs. Support project teams synthesis of user research data with other technical and business data. Analyze research findings, develop insights and present to project teams and stakeholders.

Work with interdisciplinary teams of designers and engineers to generate concepts and specifications for both physical products and digital interfaces and demonstrate those concepts to key stakeholders.

Develop user personas and scenarios to clarify results of user research and focus the teams design efforts on the needs of key users.

Perform detailed analysis of internal and external products.

Provide accurate, well-defined, and articulate verbal and written presentations to stakeholders.

Conduct frequent and direct contact with stakeholders regarding deliverables and general project communications to maintain and improve stakeholder relationships and to ensure stakeholder satisfaction.

How will you get here?Education/ Experience:

Master's degree in human factors, usability engineering, psychology and/or research from an accredited school and 3-5+ years of work experience or a combination of education and relevant work experience.

Capable of juggling a number of priorities and delivering results in a high pressure, dynamic environment.

Expertise in a broad range of UX patterns and solutions; knowing how, when (and when not) to use them.

Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders in a cooperative and productive manner with little supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

Project management experience.

Excellent written and oral presentation skills

Commitment to the customer and to product quality.

Passion for identifying problems and inventing solutions for the user.

Demonstrated proficiency conducting end-user research, including ethnographic research, usability testing, concept testing, and task analysis.

Successful candidates can translate what they know about people into actionable design insights.

Domestic and international travel is required.

Qualities that will set you apart from similar candidates:

"Any education or professional experience in the life sciences, ideally biology"

Extensive experience performing qualitative and quantitative research in collaboration with designers and product development teams

A passion for doing work that benefits society

Knowledge / experience in statistics, customer segmentation, and conjoint analysis. These are not the primary activities, but knowledge of these areas is very helpful.

Travel:

Frequent travel in the US (6-8 trips per year), mostly to the western US

Occasional travel to Asia and Europe
