Integrated Statistics is looking for a Temporary Aquarium Technician to provide support services to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Northeast Fisheries Science Center Science Aquarium, in Woods Hole, MA. The Science Aquarium is open to the public and displays marine animals typically found in Northeast and Middle Atlantic waters.

The technician will carry out husbandry and maintenance duties for fish, invertebrates, and other marine life at the aquarium; the life support systems that they require, exhibits, and visitor services, as directed by senior technicians. The position ends immediately after Labor Day (September 2, 2019).

Duties

Animal Husbandry

Prepare food, feed animals, clean animal facilities

Execute and document husbandry activities to meet federal and institutional animal welfare guidelines

Conduct and document daily observations of animal collection for injury, illness, aggression, stress, breeding activity, diet intake

Restock food and other supplies as needed and as prescribed

Use biological laboratory and medical testing and sampling equipment as instructed.

Maintenance

Assist with cleaning and maintaining habitats, visitor areas, animal care areas, and back-of-house work spaces

Assist with developing and maintaining educational materials used for activities

Drive a government vehicle.

Visitor Services

Assist with reservations

Assist with activities for school groups, VIPs, and other special groups as requested or directed

Routinely greet and speak with visitors in an informative and respectful way.

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of aquarium life husbandry and life support systems, and basic fish biology required.

Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, adhere to established procedures, be punctual and adhere to a work schedule.

Ability to handle physical exertion for moderate periods of time including standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting light objects.

Ability to safely handle knives, other cutting tools for food prep and hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches.

Familiarity with computers and ability to understand and conform to agency cybersecurity requirements and procedures.

Ability to work well in a team and to deal with the public.

Ability to pass training requirements for operating a government vehicle.

Ability to work in cold, wet environment.

Ability to take responsibility for working in a safe manner at all times. Properly use, and keep in good order, all personal protective equipment (PPE) supplied to them as protection from recognized hazards. Report any unsafe condition.

The position is full-time, and expected to last until September 2, 2019. This position requires schedule flexibility and working weekends/holidays is required. The rate of pay is $16.50/hr and the position is eligible for the benefits described on the Integrated Statistics website.
