Our Maintenance Team will ensure the efficiency and operable use of machinery and structures in our various store’s departments. You will inspect different equipment and buildings to perform basic repairs or preventative maintenance when required.

This position reports directly to the store’s General Manager. Work experience in the horticultural and retail industries, strong written and oral communication skills, experience using various hand and power tools, ability to read blueprints and repair manuals, and sound, logical judgement will lead to success in this role.

Ensure timely installation and upkeep of the company’s property and systems to guarantee operational effectiveness.

Ensure proper maintenance, housekeeping, and landscaping of the store (includes trash and compost removal, floor and bathroom cleaning, hanging of plants, and unloading and transporting of product throughout store).

Conduct regular inspections of facilities to detect and resolve problems.

Maintain maintenance logs and report on daily activities.

Implement workplace safety policies and standards.

Duties will vary depending upon the size and type of each department, but could include common tasks such as painting, plumbing, air conditioning, heating, electrical systems, carpentry, tool and hardware use, and equipment upkeep.

Support movement and presentation of inventory throughout store, prepare property for incoming stock, loading and offloading of trucks, assist with receiving as needed.

Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

COMPETENCIES

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Strong knowledge of engineering and technical concepts, including electrical and mechanical systems.

Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.

Ability to use common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.

Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.

Ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.

Proficiency with full Microsoft Office suite, and willingness / ability to learn and effectively utilize proprietary software systems.

Ability to self-direct and work independently, while maintaining productive team relationships with colleagues both inside and outside the organization.

High level of effective interpersonal skills, excellent customer service approach, and ability to maintain effective working relationships and accommodate diverse working styles.

Demonstrate the ability to manage expectations and the scope and scale of projects.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 3 years of progressive responsibility in retail store operations. Work or personal experience in the horticultural or gardening fields preferred.

Forklift certification preferred, will train and certify if needed.

Excellent customer relationship management skills.

Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to hold self and others accountable for high-quality, timely and effective results.

Demonstrated ability to maintain high-level and consistent work ethic in all work-related duties.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and database applications.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in an active retail store environment. This job may be either indoors or outdoors or both.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and / or crawling. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs at multiple times throughout the day. Must be able to stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Flexible hours. Days and hours of work vary by schedule and season. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
