General Description: We are looking for a talented individual who wishes to support the mission of First Lutheran Church. The Sexton is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, appearance and set up of the buildings and grounds. Qualities to be considered: ability to work in a team, self-starter, skills necessary to complete minor repairs as necessary.
Duties and responsibilities:
Cleaning: interior and exterior of the building including but not limited to, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, mopping, stripping and waxing floors, clearing walkways of snow, bathrooms.
Minor Repairs: Including but not limited to painting, carpentry, masonry, electrical systems, and plumbing for both the church and parsonage.
Safety and Maintenance: Ensure property's interior and exterior are safe and well maintained, and the security of the building is in proper order. Locking the church following Sunday services.
Prepare and Set-up Prepare church for liturgies, set-up and break-down spaces for meetings and events.
Quotes: Facilitate the seeking of quotes as directed.
Trash: Trash removal to the dumpster and recycling to the town sanitation facility.
Seasonal: Wash windows, install/remove air-conditioners, winter preparation, leaf removal, snow removal from walkways, de-ice walkways.
Misc: Other duties as assigned
Extra hours: The sexton is expected to work 10-20 hours on any given week. They may be called upon for emergencies, i.e. for snow removal, HVAC issues, Fire Alarm, event set-up and break-down. Weddings, Funerals, and events from groups outside the church, will be charged a Sexton fee, which will be passed on to the sexton separate from regular wages.
Work Log: Maintain work and maintenance logs for all regular duties, projects, and issues, also track hours.
Qualifications:
Willingness to support the mission of First Lutheran Church
Basic carpentry and painting skills
Experience in building maintenance and a basic knowledge of cleaning methods and products
Initiative taker and self-starter
Transportation to and from the site and for job-related responsibilities
On-call for emergencies
Clearance of CORI background checks
Physical requirements:
Ability to bend, stoop, climb, reach, move heavy items
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
