Job DescriptionYMCA Afterschool School at the Gardner Pilot AcademyTitle: Recreational Enrichment TeacherReports to: Afterschool DirectorObjective: To provide a safe, engaging and enriching educational experience for students participating in the After-school Program.Hours: 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm, Monday through FridayMore about our school: www.gardnerpilotacademy.orgJob Description:Establish a safe, orderly and positive classroom environment conducive to student learning and engagementPlan and implement daily, developmentally appropriate recreational enrichment activities that promote student engagement during Club Periods.Work collaboratively with the Academic Enrichment Teacher to support the implementation of daily academic enrichment lessonsRecognize each students’ individual strengths and needs and provide opportunities to enrich their growthStructure and facilitate daily homework support sessions in collaboration with a co-teacher to promote student understanding of core learning concepts addressed in assignmentsPromote the development of independent learners by modeling and reinforcing self-help strategies such as the use of manipulatives, deductive reasoning skills, etc.Regularly monitor and assess student behavior, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior-management techniquesReinforce, model and celebrate the core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and academic achievement upheld in the Gardner communityPresent a positive, professional atmosphere through appearance, attitude and daily conductWork in full collaboration with co-teacher and all Gardner faculty including classroom teachers, support staff, administration, etc.Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings and professional development opportunities; seek out opportunities to plan and/or facilitate P.D.Engage in reflective practice; identify both personal and program goals and work collaboratively with staff and administration to achieve themEstablish and maintain regular communication with parents, staff (including classroom teachers) and program volunteers/partners; report any work-related issues or concerns to the Program Director.Assist with and actively participate in evaluation processRespect and maintain classroom and program supplies, materials and resources; maintain a clean learning environment for studentsFollow the Personnel Policies of the Gardner and the YMCA of BostonCarry out all additional responsibilities as assigned specifically or generally by the Program DirectorRequirements

High School Diploma required

Minimum one (1) year working with school age children and at least six (6) months experience working with youth ages 5-14

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

CPR and First Aid certified (can be acquired once hired)
