Job Overview:VP, Head of Enterprise Cell & Gene TherapyA member of Enterprise Solutions Leadership Team reporting directly to the President of Enterprise Solutions and the leader responsible for providing Executive leadership across the Enterprise for cell and gene therapy (CGT), linking with existing commercial, scientific, medical and operational teams that span the enterprise of drug development and diagnostics. This leader will provide the strategic vision required to develop an industry leading position for proactive engagements, and scientifically focused client interactions in support of cell and gene therapy drug development. Working in an entrepreneurial manner with a small agile team and a broader matrixed group of experts, this leader will drive novel and innovative solutions that leverage all of diagnostics and drug development assets.This leader will develop relationships with Covance subject matter experts as well as key opinion leaders in the industry to support efforts to establish Covance’s capabilities and reputation as the CRO of choice for cell and gene therapy development. The leader will work closely with project teams and key personnel under the drug development and diagnostics umbrella to develop creative partnering solutions for clients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Reporting to the President Enterprise Solutions, the role will have overall responsibility for the following activities:

Provide strategic leadership to the CGT business and operational teams and support enterprise wide support across all Covance business units from preclinical through clinical

Develop and deliver an integrated strategy and framework for building a world class organization focused on meeting clients’ needs for the development and operationalization of strategies for the development of therapeutic approaches and modalities that fall within the advanced therapies area including cell and gene therapy

Develop and execute an enterprise growth strategy for CGT by addressing client needs, internal gaps in services, and strategic partnerships and or acquisitions that support the advanced therapy area of cell (i.e., Adoptive T cell therapies) and gene based (gene replacement therapies) therapies.

Must have a broad understanding of clinical research and key operational knowledge within and across Covance BUs.

Lead cross-functional projects and teams where appropriate, ensuring successful project evaluations and implementations.

Championing cross-functional and cross BU best practices, lessons learnt and consistency

Contribute to and embody Covance’s core values.

Model and drive a sense of urgency and accountability on awarded CGT opportunities and new enterprise awards.

Have the ability to create team followership through establishing channels of trust

Participate in nurturing a strong staff culture in which all colleagues thrive.

Champion the vision of Covance and resulting business strategy, establishing direct, virtual and dotted-line teams to accomplish cross business outcomes.

Effective and consistent stakeholder management, partnering closely with operational leaders, the alliance organizations (voice of customer), executive team and commercial counterparts to drive internal alignment on long term Covance solutions.

Performance Monitoring and Evaluation

Develops, monitors, and manages operational, financial and talent processes and associated performance metrics related to Enterprise delivery of programs.

Establish service line goals, priorities and timelines, consistent with overall Covance strategy, client expectations and key objectives.

Provide timely and professional communications with client contacts for programs.

Talent

Recruit, develop and evaluate talent; particularly with eye toward broader healthcare and drug development landscape, leading virtual teams, and modeling a cross enterprise mindset.

Ensure competent staff are available and properly managed to maximize resource effectiveness across the enterprise and meet workload and innovative requirements.

Champion all services and solutions, seeking and sponsoring best operational and commercial delivery plans.

Ensure employees are engaged and develop plans to continually improve/increase employee engagement.

Essential External Client, Industry and Partnership related Job Duties

Act as Executive sponsor for Key Client Accounts as assigned.

Support marketing and sales business development efforts by communicating and demonstrating the service capabilities through written materials, personal meetings and conferences.

Ensure client satisfaction through excellent relationship management, quality and timely contractual execution.

Work with fellow experts to anticipate / predict evolving healthcare and drug development needs, and better leverage entire corporation’s capabilities to identify and effectively deliver appropriate solutions

Education/Qualifications:B.S. or M.S. required, PhD, or MD preferred in scientific discipline or health related fieldExperience:

Requires 10-15 years of experience in a CRO and/or pharma involved in developing and delivering drug development solutions, client engagement, and strategy development

Ability to create team followership through establishing channels of trust

Demonstrated ability to lead a matrixed organization and deliver operational and financial results

Strong understanding of clinical development specifically related to cell & gene therapies

Knowledge and expertise in managing business relationships and partnerships

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong track record of stakeholder management (internal and external)

Ability to interpret and translate industry trends, competitive intelligence, and other data sources as it relates to identifying proactive client targets

Experience managing in a global matrixed environment

Ability to set strategic and operational objectives

Excellent interpersonal skills

Proven record of driving continuous improvement

Demonstrated strong customer satisfaction skills
