job summary:
Role Overview:- This position is for a Software Lead working on the AIM CIS Platform. This is within the Rail project domain applications and will include design, development and / or maintenance of Positive Train Control, SCADA, Dispatching, and Information management applications in support of customers.
- The role is a combination of technical leadership and oversight, coordinating, preparing, and presenting technical solutions. This role also consists of managing day-to-day tasking and project plans for the Engineering team. This position is key and will be a senior member of the Rail Software Engineering organization.
- Act as a leader to the software development team. Provide technical guidance for the software group on an assigned project.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight and when necessary, hands-on coding.
- Oversee design, development, testing, and validation of programming code and products.
- Facilitate daily scrums, stand-ups, and meetings to monitor project progress and remove impediments.
- Organize and track SW team activities while providing schedule support and task decomposition.
- Creation and management of user stories and sprints in JIRA.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Project Manager and other discipline leads.
- Follow and enforce engineering guidelines set in system development methodology.
- Train junior engineers.
- Review code and triage issues.
- Support Department initiatives.
- Conduct activities professionally and in a forthright manner.
- This position requires a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, HS Diploma/Equivalent plus 11 years of relevant experience is required.
- Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline preferred.
- Seven (7) years of software engineering experience in progressively more challenging positions.
- Software architecture and design skills.
- Knowledge of at least two and an expert in at least one of the following:
- C
- C
- Java
- Erlang
- C#
- Knowledge of relational databases of at least one of the following:
- Oracle
- SQL Server
- PostgreSQL
- Proficient in Atlassian tools: JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
- Proficient in MS Project.
- Ability to collaborate and maintain professional conduct with peers, project team members, and management personnel.
- Ability as a self-starter to coordinate team in solving skills.
