The Motorist Assist Patrol (MAP) Operator provides safe, quick clearance of incidents that affect traffic, including traffic accidents and disabled vehicles. The primary purpose of the MAP is to ensure the roadways are free of obstructions and safe for the traveling public. To ensure safety, MAP Operators wear highly visible, reflective uniforms and drive specially marked vehicles when assisting motorists and emergency responders. Upon successful completion of classroom and field training, the MAP Operator will be certified in Traffic Incident Management and operate a fully equipped Motorist Assist Vehicle. Specific duties include but not limited to:

Communicate, Coordinate, and Disseminate information clearly and effectively to radio dispatcher, using a radio unit or other two-way communication device

-Monitors the safety of roadways regarding vehicle crashes, disabled/abandoned vehicles, debris, and lane-closing events, traffic signal malfunctions, damage to equipment and large materials on state roadways, and general incident/congestion scenarios.

-Provides roadside assistance to stranded motorists (including changing tires, giving battery jumps, providing fuel, removing debris from the travel lanes, etc.)

-Works closely with other first responders (Police, Fire, and EMS), at highway incidents.

-Accepts personal responsibility of all work output and productivity.

-Complete all required daily report and adhere to LADOTD/MAP policies and procedures.

-MAP Operations 24/7/365 and are considered essential emergency personnel, subject to working days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

-Must be physically capable to work during inclement weather and perform required job task.

-Full Time position, subject to being called in and held over end of shift.

-Emergency Services / First Responder experience preferred but not required. (Police, Fire, EMS, Military, etc)
