As a workingsupervisor, some truss and panel design will be necessary at times. Theposition is also responsible for the training and development of employeeswithin the team. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplishgoals; some creativity and latitude is expected; works under thesupervision of a manager.Principal Duties / Responsibilities Oversees the design team and ensures the team provides a detailed accuratedesign. Works with outsourced design team by sending jobs to be completed, checkingthose projects for accuracy once completed, and providing feedback to helpthem evolve. Ensure the team provides drawings and submits new projects for approval. Communicates effectively with internal team members and UFP customers to hitdeadlines. Schedules bids and orders under designers and tracks due dates and deadlines. Provides problem-solving solutions using Building Codes and productinformation. Responsible for overseeing training and development of all designers in thedepartment. Generates individual evaluations and departmental reports based onperformance evaluations. Coaches and counsels team employees. Develops procedures and focuses on their implementation to achievedepartmental goals. Manages the activity of the design team while finding ways to motivateindividual team members to maximize individual/team productivity and growth. Resolves various problems while identifying opportunities for improvement. Evaluates performance of individuals and department. Manages activities consistent with all UFP policies, procedures, andapplicable law. Communicates to employees and management as required. Manages cost and profitability of the department. Prepares reports and maintains records as required. Performs other duties as required.RequirementsKnowledge: Minimum high school graduate. Preferred bachelor's degree in relateddiscipline or equivalent. Minimum 10 years of truss design and/or wall panel design experiencerequired. Preferred experience of 3 years managing or supervising a team. Working knowledge and experience using MiTek Structure/SE and MBA softwareis required. Working knowledge and experience reading architectural plans and engineeringdrawings.Skills and abilities: Proficiency in the use of MiTek Sapphire Suite is required. Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing andspeaking. Ability to read and understand architectural, structural, and mechanicalblueprints. Ability to read, understand and interpret building codes. Ability to use a computer terminal as well as proficiency in the use ofMicrosoft Office software. Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and thepublic. Ability to communicate effectively with others, including customers,peers, and management daily. Ability to manage several projects at once, organize and prioritize work,and meet deadlines. Ability to work at a desk for prolonged periods of time, be mobile in thework environment, and work hours mandated by management. Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strongmath skills. Ability to pass a drug test.Conduct: Self-managing; works well under little supervision.
