This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), Gulf of Mexico OCS Region (GOMR), Resource Evaluation (RE), Geological & Geophysical Section, Geological & Geophysical Evaluation Unit II, in Jefferson, LA. The incumbent works closely with other geologists, geophysicists, and supervisors of the BOEM GOMR office to provide a general guidance and coordination necessary to apply the data, results and conclusions generated by the regional studies and reservoir mapping program to estimate fair market value for the tracts offered on lease sales. At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Analyzes, evaluates, and interprets geophysical and geological information and related data, independently carries out detailed, complex, and complete geoscientific investigations of considerable breadth and scope; to include use of geologic and seismic data to define structural traps associated with active salt tectonics, delineation and calibration of seismic amplitude anomalies, prospect identification, collaboration with other geophysicists and geologists in placing prospects into a regional play framework with the most reasonable reservoir facies and quantities uncertainty for use in hydrocarbon resource assessment. Performs detailed analysis of geophysical, geological and engineering data in the application of determining hydrocarbon prospects, structural styles, trapping mechanisms, and probable productive facies of reservoir sands. Works closely with other geologist/geophysicists, paleontologists, computer support staff, outside contractors (software personnel), engineers, and other technical and management personnel in solving unique and routine problems and preparing highly specialized technical reports for use in all branches of BOEM. Performs sub-salt interpretation of both time and depth migrated seismic data to perform the conversion of time horizons to depth for the purpose of generating accurate structural sub-salt prospect maps. Correlates relevant well logs, ties and calibrates existing well control to the seismic data and constructs detailed structural, stratigraphic and seismic attribute maps and cross-sections to support and illustrate a play, trend or prospect. Works closely with Section Chiefs, Unit Supervisors, Staff Geologists, Staff Geophysicists, Staff Engineers, and Regional Supervisor as a specialist to advise, obtain information, and make recommendations to aid in the Region and Division management in decision making. Ensure effective flow of required information for decision making in each bureau. Special Salary Rate Range Information: GS-09: $61596 - 80077 per annum.GS-11: $74525 - 96881 per annum.GS-12: $89325 - 116128 per annum.First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-11, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service.
