Job Position: Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction

Summary of Position:

This Estimator position is responsible for estimating cost of time and material on heavy civil construction projects.

Key Activities and Position Responsibilities

Pre -Bid

Research prospective project opportunities to bid.

Develop the bid strategies.

Knowledge of the work they are bidding and have an ability to interpret and schedule the work.

Obtain required Bid Bonds.

Obtain quotes on specialty insurance and bonds.

Perform a scope analysis including quantity takeoffs.

Technical competency in reviewing plans and specs including ability to analyze quantities for overruns and underruns.

Market awareness, including competitor's work volume.

Understand (HCSS) Heavy Bid and its functions.

Understand crew composition, equipment selection, production, material requirements including waste/yield, and subcontractor supports.

Solicit and negotiate with material suppliers and subcontractors.

Coordination of all scopes of work within a project.

For quotes and private bid submissions, prepare scope letter with clarifications and schedule of values.

Electronic bid submissions-

o Expedite and how to upload DOT bids

o TVA Power Advocate and how to upload bids.

Paper bid submission-

o Understand local requirements

o Complete all bid documents.

Post-Bid

Analyze bid results

Assist with subcontractors and material supplier selection.

Complete any relevant owner award paperwork.

Set-up the project budget in Viewpoint.

Write subcontractors and major purchase orders in Viewpoint.

Prepare the project for handoff to the Project Team.

Education & Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or similar related field is preferred but not required. Landfill and Power experience is a plus.

Additional Qualifications:

Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid, Viewpoint, Excel and AutoCad preferred.

Requirements:

Minimum 5 Years of estimating experience

Self Motivated and able to accomplish tasks on time

Must be able to follow direction as well as work with a team

Some travel will be required
