Materials PlannerApply now »Date:Oct 22, 2019Location:Topeka, KS, USNo Relocation Assistance Offered75404 - Topeka, Kansas, United StatesThe Material Planner is responsible for material requirement tracking to the short, mid and long term production schedules in alignment and integrated with CS&L. The Material Planner maintains internal and vendor relationships and manages the packaging and raw requirements of existing and new materials to support the plant production schedulers. The planner will also be responsible for identifying and driving savings within the area of responsibility.Responsibilities:Tactical Responsibilities:

Identifies risks to production plans and gaps between required and available materials, and leads efforts to resolve related issues.

Provides material requirements and analytical support to determine optimal manufacturing cycle times, safety stock inventory requirements, and any other parameters related to material planning and inventory management.

Supports manufacturing performance improvements utilizing an understanding of capacities and cost constraints of third party and Hill’s manufacturing facilities.

Develops systems expertise and continuously improve the use of our planning systems.

Track short/long-term requirements, including new materials as it pertains to new product launches, graphic changes, formula changes and specification changes and support Procurement to ensure sufficient vendor capacity is contracted to meet these needs.

Maintain communication with key vendors and share information relevant to changes in the business to develop and maintain key partnerships.

Planning/Coordinating Responsibilities:

Determines future plant material needs based off of current sales plan, production capacity and inventory targets.

Compiles monthly materials production and inventory based off forecast data.

Communicates needs to plants and work through capacity constraints.

Plans new materials as it pertains to new product launches, promotional activities, formula changes, graphic and specification changes. Ensure new materials will be available at the plant or at the supplier location in order to meet production timelines while keeping obsolescence at a minimum.

Support data integrity of SAP to include demand, inventory levels, BOMs and material masters.

Identifies gaps between required and available materials, and leads efforts to resolve related issues. Resolves issues related to demand changes or shortfall to minimize planned production interruptions and material obsolescence.

Participates in and supports cross-functional project teams. Participates as a member of the department team and drives performance improvements.

Strategic Responsibilities:

Monitor and make adjustments to material safety stocks for proper balance between working capital and customer service.

Reviews results and makes adjustments to insure lowest cost and maximum customer service are delivered from third-party providers.

Support implementation of SMI with appropriate suppliers.

Tracks material plans verses agreed volumes and provides feedback to procurement.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Computer Science or related field.

At least 1 year of experience in manufacturing, inventory control, logistics or other related fields.

Proficiency with Google to include Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Docs.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 3 years experience in manufacturing, inventory control, or logistics.

Previous SAP experience.
