in Leavenworth, KS. The incumbent provide supervision to the on-duty

police shift. Protects property and persons on the VA Eastern Kansas

Health Care System Medical Center property and insures laws are

properly enforced.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer, reporting

to the Chief of Police for Eastern Kansas Healthcare System (EKHCS),

on the Leavenworth campus.Some of the major duties will include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for planning shift Activities, directing assigned

personnel, organizing the shift's activities, controlling shift

activities and coordinating with other service lines and

agencies on matters pertaining to Security and Law Enforcement;

Ensures that the enforcement of Federal and applicable State

Criminal Codes and the VA regulations in the physical protection

of all persons, the protection of all property owned and

controlled by the Veterans Affairs is accomplished in accordance

with VA policies, procedures, rules and regulations;

Prepare performance appraisals on assigned employees;

Conducting informal inspections of officers to insure proper

uniform appearance and equipment wear;

Planning and assigning fixed posts, patrol areas and hours of

operation; assuring that all reports are prepared and completed

for review by higher authority;

Overseeing employee work performance, critiquing officers'

independent decision for soundness and legality.

QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements

employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks

this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52

- To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all

- Basic Requirements: Investigation of Fitness: A character

investigation may be conducted on applicants selected for

employment. The purpose of such an investigation is to secure

evidence of the candidate's honesty, integrity, general

character, and loyalty to the U. S. Government. Such

Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-8 Supervisory

Policy Officer, candidates must demonstrate experience at the

next lower grade level (GS-7 or equivalent) that provided

knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law

enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved

responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and

property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained

in work on a police force; through service as a military police

officer; in work providing visitor protection and law

enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or

recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative

duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge

and skills.There is no educational substitution for the GS-08 level for the

Supervisory Police Officer position.You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

skills and can provide valuable training and experience that

translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for

all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of

work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of

time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to

receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature

of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number

of hours a week spent in such employment.Physical Requirements: The duties of these positions require

moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of

Conditions of Employment: Firearms: Must be qualified to carry

firearms and maintain firearm proficiency. Incumbent

will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties and

maintain firearm proficiency.

As a condition of continued employment as a VA Police Officer, the

officer must (1) achieve and maintain qualification

in the use of the agency approved firearm; (2) must successfully

complete an initial and annual psychological

assessment and physical; and (3) must successfully complete the

Basic Police Officer Training Course (at the Law

Enforcement Training Center) and its Physical Fitness Test.

This position requires a Background Investigation. Incumbent will be

required to sign a statement indicating that they

understand that the investigation results must be favorable in order
