The College Board Iowa office is seeking temporary Direct Writing Essay scorers for the SAT Essay field test scoring project. Qualified scorers must have a bachelor's degree in English or related humanities field, and will preferably have previous scoring experience with direct writing assessments at the high school level. Scorers will attend a three-day training session at the outset of the project and must then pass a Qualification Test in order to participate in scoring. Scoring will take place at the scoring site listed below. All materials will be considered secure and confidential and participants must sign a Non-disclosure Agreement prior to the start of training.
Project dates: June 10th approximately August 13th, 2019.
Scorers are expected to work approximately 35 hours/week.
Location: College Board Scoring Center
1012 Gilbert Court, Iowa City, IA 52240
Center hours: 8:00-4:30 M-F.
Scoring Responsibilities:
Scorers must be able to attend the initial 3-day training session. In training, scorers will be instructed on how to score student essays by using a scoring rubric to apply scores consistently across multiple prompts.
Scorers will read and score essays, maintaining an accurate and consistent calibration.
Scorers will be expected to maintain quality assurance and scoring validity through duration of project.
An average read-rate of at least 12 essays per hour will be expected.
All scoring will be done onsite and on computers. Scorers must be comfortable using a computer.
Payment: Scorers who maintain acceptable quality assurance will receive $15.00/hour compensation. Scorers who are unable to perform to quality assurance standards will be released from the project.
