Adult Services

Permanent, Part-Time (25 hours/week)

Salary Range: $22.50 to $29.14/hour

Includes evening and weekend shifts

Summary:

Under general direction, works at the Info Desk and Library Switchboard answering reference questions and transactional questions related to patron accounts, the circulation of materials, and general library services. Maintains a variety of reference resources. Creates, delivers, schedules and promotes instructional classes for various media production software and hardware, personal devices, computer software, databases, and internet searching. Coordinates the training of Digital Media Lab users and assists with general management of the lab.

Examples of Duties:

Coordinates the training of Digital Media Lab users and assists with general management of the lab. Hires, evaluates, schedules, trains, and monitors the work of the Digital Media Lab intern. Creates, delivers, schedules, and promotes instructional classes for various media production software and hardware, personal devices, computer software, databases and internet searching. Works with community groups to deliver technology classes and programming. Works on library Information Desk answering routine and researching complex questions, using print, electronic and other resources in person, on the telephone, by mail, email, and chat and assisting patrons in the use of the online catalog and internet. Supervises public use of computer workstations. Answers all incoming calls to the Library switchboard, and answers callers questions or transfers calls to other staff. Communicates and interprets Library policies, on procedures and policies related to the circulation of materials and meeting room reservation, and follows established procedures. Serves in Info Desk and Switchboard evening and weekend rotations.

Training and Experience:

Bachelors degree or equivalent required. Experience in preparing and delivering instructional materials required. Criminal background check required. One year of experience at a library reference desk preferred. Experience delivering technology instruction and support preferred. Knowledge of media editing software and familiarity with Adobe software preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of standard reference and readers advisory tools, techniques, and resources. Skill assisting public in using library catalog, other databases and online resources. Skills in using the circulation system software, library catalog, and Event Manager. Knowledge of personal computer applications and software packages. Broad knowledge of how the internet works. Skill in using computers and other devices to assist patrons and access eCollections. Skill in providing training. Knowledge of community resources. Skill working with the public, including assisting with customer complaints, and general customer service issues. Skills in data entry and data retrieval in computer systems. Skills in working with and maintaining effective relationships with community groups. Ability to learn and use new technologies.
