Housing Sanitation Inspector - Bilingual Spanish (Ames, IA)

It is critical to the success of our H-2A Visa program that employee housing meet all cleanliness and maintenance requirements.

As our Housing Sanitation Inspector, you will conduct housing inspections in the Midwest and other parts of the US as needed (typically Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin). Your primary responsibilities are as follows:

- Provide documentation of maintenance issues for landlords.

- Provide documentation of housekeeping issues along with general upkeep and cleanliness of each property, and if necessary, direct work crews to address these issues.

- Scheduled and surprise inspections to check grounds, habitations and community kitchen. If housing does not meet standards, educate employees on required standards and work with crew leader/supervisor/superintendent to ensure employees comply. The Housing Supervisor would need to stay on site until condition is satisfactory.

- Routine inspections of multiple properties and reporting and documentation of each visit.

- Ensure that crews participate in mandatory rules.

- Ensure that all areas in and around housing are clean, organized and safe.

- Coordinate apartment turnover including unloading and loading furniture and assembling and disassembling furniture.

- Execute cleaning (vacuum, sweep, clean ceiling fans, vents, etc.)

- Ensure all housing is supplied with required safety equipment, including smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, etc.

- Meet U.S. Department of Labor Inspector to complete inspections. Make changes adjustments to ensure labor standards are met.

- Assist with repairs and maintenance for housing, ensure repair/maintenance is completed, working with building management if a lease property, or arrange if the property is owned by Signet.

- Support visa workers and provide transportation and translation service. Coordinate completion of HR related tasks including Driver license, fingerprints, physicals, etc.

- Other duties as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

- Knowledge of inspection techniques

- Ability to read and interpret local guidelines on required housing conditions

- Ability to guide people to follow compliance requirements being persuasive yet firm when appropriate

- Ability to schedule and prioritize housing inspections, sanitation and maintenance projects

- Position based out of Iowa

- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish

- Driver’s License and clean driving record

- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

- Hotel and/or apartment inspection experience preferred

- High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions:

- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (e.g. moving furniture, mattresses, supplies, etc.)

- Must be able to walk housing units while taking notes and photos talk

- Listen and speak clearly on telephone

- Use computer to type and send reports and communication

- Must be able to drive to housing locations across multiple states

Additional Notes:

Schedule will be variable with nights and weekends to be worked during the busy parts of the season
