Project Title: Georgia Emerging Infections Program Employment Status: Full-Time (40 hours/week) Position Summary The Surveillance Assistant will support EIP surveillance program activities through data collection, entry, and management into multiple Access and web-based databases. The position also will be responsible for ensuring high-quality surveillance following EIP best practices in data acquisition and quality procedures. This position will be assigned to one or more specific EIP program areas but will also provide general EIP support. Surveillance data will be collected and managed in databases such as REDCap, SendSS, Access, etc. Laboratory duties will help manage specimen retrieval and transport and allow for timely case identification. This position requires a valid Driver?s License and the ability to readily obtain / use an insured personal vehicle for off-site visits and specimen transportation frequently and as needed. Job Functions Function 1 (50%): Perform data collection, entry, and management for assigned program areas. Contact medical facilities and patients to collect and verify case information. Assist in data edits and case report form validation. Perform general office duties such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents. Function 2 (45%): Perform isolate and specimen log-in, tracking, packaging, and shipping in the laboratory. Screen isolates and specimens to meet case definition and create case report forms. Communicate with partners at CDC and local laboratories to coordinate transport and shipment of isolates/specimens. Transport isolates and specimens from facilities in the metro-Atlanta area to the Atlanta VA Healthcare System, Georgia Public Health Lab (GPHL), or CDC. Function 3 (5%): Conduct telephone interviews and support for case-control studies and other special studies. The role may require some evening and weekend hours to cover call shifts as needed by specific project areas. Minimum Requirements Education: Minimum: Bachelor?s degree in public health or scientific field. Experience: Some experience or coursework with medical data abstraction, electronic medical records systems, or medical terminology. Experience or coursework working in a scientific laboratory. No professional experience required. Specific Skills: Working knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel and Access). Special Knowledge, Licenses, Etc.: Spanish fluency is desirable.
