Electro-Mechanical Technician – Work on diverse array of projects and equipment, including pumps, valves, cardboard balers, generators, and associated subsystems. Experience with motor controls, PLCs, VFDs, SCADA systems a plus. If you have limited experience in these areas, but high degree of mechanical and/or electrical aptitude, then our training program will offer you an opportunity to gain competence in these technical areas.

Pacific Electro-Mechanical is a multi-disciplined systems integrator and technical services company comprising 23 employees at six locations on four islands. We have been in business for 40 years, with our primary focus being water pumping, control and delivery. Our clients include some of Hawaii’s largest general contractors, major landowners, and private utilities. We offer a great work environment with opportunity for growth and advancement in a number of disciplines. Our growing workload has created a requirement for additional Electro-Mechanical Technicians.

Position: Electro-Mechanical Technician

Job Description: Through a process of drawing on your own experience, getting on-the-job training, and independent reading, we would expect you to come up to speed on troubleshooting and repairing pumps, valves, automated diesel engines, and the electrical controls associated with appurtenant systems. Our successful technicians are all generalists who, on a typical job, might apply universal troubleshooting skills to sort through the integrated mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on a piece of equipment to get it back on line for our client. In addition to troubleshooting and repair (which is typically done in the field) we also do equipment installation and upgrades. A simple project might involve a couple of technicians fabricating and installing a small irrigation booster pump, while a large project might involve installation of a complex pumping station which would involve the use of cranes and on-site fitting and welding skills. The key word here is “systems”. We take a systems approach to problem solving, and to do this successfully involves integrating multiple crafts and disciplines.

Effective troubleshooter of mechanical and electrical systems

Strong mechanical aptitude

Highly organized worker able to turn out neat and workmanlike product

Effective at reading and absorbing contents of technical manuals

Well developed computer skills including effective on-line search strategies and use of Microsoft Word and Excel

Knowledge of PLC application, programming and troubleshooting

Knowledge of VFD application, programming, and troubleshooting

High degree of curiosity

Detail Oriented, problem solver who can prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines

Self starter who can work with minimal supervision

Reliable and dependable

Positive attitude

Team player who can work well in a collaborative environment

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Minimum Requirements:

Four years work experience in related field(s)

Demonstrated ability as effective troubleshooter and mechanic

Competency in basic electrical schematic reading

Strong mechanical aptitude

Hawaii Drivers License with clean abstract

Successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) drug screen
