A locomotive welder performs welding and fabricating duties in accordance with FRA and Company Standards, which includes the removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of locomotive parts, components and structures.Key Job Elements Conducts basic mechanical requirements of a Locomotive Mechanic III; Certified in GMAW(Mig) in 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G to facility requirements; Certified in FCAW(flux) in 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G to facility requirements; Certified in SMAW(stick) in 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G to facility requirements; Certified in socket pipe welding according to facility requirements; Metal Brakes; Operate plasma cutter and acc. torch consistently, accurately, and safely; Conducts basic fabrication processes; Work with a variety of locomotive components; Follow written/scope of work instructions and or QWI’s consistently, accurately, and safely; Works with little or no supervision consistently, accurately, and safely; Read precision instruments and gauges accurately and safely; Keep work area clean and organized consistently and safely; Use electric and air operated hand tools accurately and safely; Operate overhead cranes accurately and safely; Complete and document jobs in a timely manner per traveler requirements/QWI’s/work instructions consistently, accurately, and safely.Education / Training High School Education or GED, prefer some vocational or technical training; Certified/Licensed Welder OR 12 months of demonstrated experience as a Welder.Qualifications and Experience Must pass a pre-employment weld test; Must become weld certified in first 90 days of employment; Mechanical aptitude; Read precision instruments, micrometers, and gauges accurately and safely; Ability to weld with mig/stick/flux consistently, accurately, and safely; Ability to operate plasma cutter and acc. torch consistently, accurately, and safely; Ability to weld in various positions-vertical/horizontal/overhead/flat accurately and safely; Knowledge of basic fabrication processes; Knowledge of basic mechanical skills; Knowledge of locomotive components; Must be QA certified in welding and piping; Ability to follow written/scope of work instructions and or QWI’s consistently, accurately, and safely; Ability to work with little or no supervision consistently, accurately, and safely; Ability to read precision instruments and gauges accurately and safely; Must keep work area clean and organized consistently and safely; Ability to use electric and air operated hand tools accurately and safely; Ability to operate overhead cranes accurately and safely; Complete and document jobs in a timely manner per traveler requirements/QWI’s/work instructions consistently, accurately, and safely.BenefitsProgress Rail Services Corporation and its subsidiary and affiliate companies offer an excellent total compensation package including competitive salary, 401(k) plan with company match, available medical/dental/life/disability insurance coverage and paid vacation and holidays.
