Applies ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with prescriptions and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.

Responsible for the simulation of patients on both traditional and CT simulators.

May be involved in special procedures and Dosimetry functions as needed.

Uses and checks radiation equipment according to established procedure in operating manuals.

Assures that equipment is functioning properly prior to and during patient use, as demonstrated by notifying personnel of any malfunctions in the equipment.

Identifies equipment malfunctions, discontinues procedures and reports it to the Chief therapist and/or physicist according to department procedure.

Demonstrates continuous competency on an annual basis on all applicable equipment in the department.

Reviews Operating Manuals of all equipment on annual basis.

Reviews prescriptions, records and notes on Patient on a daily basis.

Schedules patients for treatment to optimize department efficiency and patient convenience.

Assesses the patient treatment port prior to initiation of treatment, according to department policy and procedure.

Performs treatment as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.

Reports changes in patient's condition or inappropriate response to treatment to Radiation Oncologist or Nurse.

Prepares simulation equipment and room for simulation of patient.

Documents simulation parameters on worksheet and has physician complete and sign.

Simulates patient according to the guidelines of the department as outlined in the Policy and Procedure manual.

May assist in special procedures including HDR; Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Implants.

Must be able to manually calculate all doses. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.

Attends educational in-services as appropriate.

Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

Assures that simulation consent form has been signed by patient prior to procedure. Completes documentation of patient treatment in the patient chart and VARiS.

Enters simulation set-up instructions and other pertinent information into VARiS and treatment chart.

Maintains patient safety and infection control practices at all times.

Practices organizational and universal standards for sterile technique, infection control, and radiation protection in carrying out daily responsibilities.

Wears personal protective equipment as required.

Responsible for on-call coverage for nights and weekends on a rotating basis. Supervises and evaluates radiation therapy students within the guidelines of the program and the department.

May assist in interviewing and selection of new students.

Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program.

No experience required.

New graduate of accredited program in radiation therapy.

Certification OR degree required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
