Description:BASIC FUNCTION:Restocks supply carts, Pyxis stations and specialty carts up to established par levels. Helps to maintain adequate stock levels of DMS inventory. Insures that all necessary supplies and equipment are readily available to nursing team so that they may provide optimum patient care. In carrying out these tasks, completes day-to-day routine stocking of nurservers, transporting of soiled items and equipment to decontamination area, and keeps in continual contact with DMS in order to deliver and pick up supplies as required. Responds to telephone and computer generated requests for supplies and equipment. Insures delivery as required and that these supplies and equipment have been charged for properly.SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY: NoneNATURE AND SCOPE:The position requires communication and interaction with all team members, management and medical staff, as well as frequent external communication and interaction with patients and families.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times, keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.Participates in DMS projects.Makes decisions according to resources and reports them to the responsible manger using policy and procedure manual.Initiates and signs unusual occurrence reports.Initiates and signs maintenance repair requests providing copy to manager.Has a thorough understanding of all DMS equipment and assists care givers accordingly.Exhibits on-going self-development through familiarization of new products and awareness of product deletions.Assist inventory control clerk with posting.Refills Pyxis stations as scheduled.Applies knowledge of cleaners and germicides in decontamination area.Completes procedure trays from tray cards with accuracy.Assumes pro-active role in preparation for inspections.Maintains continuing education hours as required for DMS Technician II.Assists in keeping Pyxis stations neat and orderly.Reads shift report.Maintains familiarity with traction cart and supplies; performs specified specialty tractions.Assists other assignments as required.Delivers routine supplies to all areas as required. Prioritizes requests for the best outcome in patient care.Works well with assigned dispatcher, recognizing that the dispatcher is required to page this assigned technician and give orders for their assigned tasks.Picks up credits and delivers them to dispatch.Delivers and completes restocking of IV Trays as scheduled.Carries a beeper and is subject to call.Stocks the nurserver cart and keeps this cart in good order.Restocks each nursing unit with admission kits, gloves and galley supplies as required.Keeps clean holds tidy.Delivers all routine and stat equipment as ordered to all areas.Also noting CAMS number on equipment order for entry into monitoring system.Does daily inventory of equipment using the CAMS hand-held system, including transfer of information from hand-held to PC, and inventory update function.Does daily rounds from CAMS hand-held verifying that all equipment, traction and suction set ups are in place, issuing and/or deleting as necessary. At completion, transfers verified information back to PC, and does rounds reconciliation as well as printing log sheet.Responsible for keeping the equipment plugged into electrical outlets to charge batteries, if required.Picks up soiled equipment from units and soiled holds.Sets up five basic traction set-ups.Cleans and decontaminates equipment, pillows and commode pots as necessary.Applies knowledge and technique appropriate to items processed in decontamination procedure.Completes CAMS end-of-day procedures including transfer of charges to mainframe for patient billing.Maintains a log of items not ordered through the computer order entry system.Inventories and restocks specialty carts accurately and in a timely manner.In the supervisors absence, phones in orders for rental beds and equipment if needed.Makes soiled equipment rounds.Checks and tags equipment and return to holding areas.Writes credit list of supplies returned to DMS.Initiates work requests for equipment needing repair.Scans all returned equipment and uploads to CAMS PC.Inventories and restocks emergency carts accurately and in a timely manner.Assists with the building and revising of specialty carts and Pyxis stations.Notifies appropriate people of rental equipment return. Makes sure patient information is logged appropriately.Delivers STAT orders within the allotted time frame.Monitors DMS shelves to insure suction kits and NG setups are available for issue.Completes shift report at end of shift.Inventories and restocks emergency department cast carts as scheduled.Monitors and assembles Zinco braces as required.Reviews specialty carts for missing items and completes them as necessary.Assists with pulling Pyxis refill supplies.Fills Pyxis out-of-stock reports in a timely manner.Fills “pick list” orders accurately and promptly.Inventories shelves and orders supplies from the storeroom.Assist supervisor with checking end of month outdates.Orders items from prime vendor by generating purchase order.Orders pre-expensed items as needed.Delivers sterile instruments back to using areas.Defines any items NOT available on the cart/station for use to alert care givers.Follows department procedures regarding zero quantities in supply stations.Places correct item in correct bin or area in a neat, orderly, usable fashion.Checks for outdated supplies as they are stocked.Provides on going supply of clean linen to patient care areas.Supplies clean linen to special care areas (ER, special procedures, A.S.U., etc.) by replenishing linen carts.Removes soiled linen from specified specialty areas daily.Assists in keeping linen room neat and orderly.Follows the instruction of the linen coordinator.Processes specialty linen as needed in a timely manner.Removes empty linen carts provided by linen service from the laundry area and aligns them for pick up from linen service.Notifies linen coordinator when additional supplies or linens are needed.Records daily linen usage as required.Maintains supply of scrub wear available in all areas requiring scrubs.Monitors burn linen cart to insure it is complete and ready to issue.Assembles surgilift rolls.Delivers pillows as needed.Makes repairs as required.Delivers linen bags and biohazard bags to nursing units as required.Stamps new linen as necessary.Interacts appropriately with pediatric and geriatric patients in the area of safety, communications and infection control.Introduces themselves to patients.Uses appropriate tone and volume of voice.Checks room for safety hazards.Washes hands appropriately.Notifies nursing regarding patient safety concerns.Attends a minimum of eight staff meetings annually.Attends in-services and is compliant with essential education without prompting from manager.Performs other duties as assigned.CORE COMPETENCIES:Good physical and mental health.Manual dexterity to handle instruments and equipment.Understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with patients, visitors, and other personnel.Demonstrates capability to work all DMS Tech assignments.Must have visual and hearing acuity.Must have manual dexterity.Must be able to manipulate equipment and supplies.Need good oral and written communication.Need to be able to reach overhead.Must have good telephone skills and be able to function under pressure.Must be able to access entire physical plant.Frequent hand, wrist, and arm movements (i.e., computer work).MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or equivalent.Successful completion of DMS Technician class.Attends a minimum of eight (8) in-service program hours per year.One (1) year of DMS technician experience in an acute care setting.CCIRH IS A DRUG AND NICOTINE FREE WORKPLACEThe policy of Cleveland Clinic and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our employees and applicants for employment in our tobacco free and drug free environment.
