Description:BASIC FUNCTION:The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a professional nurse prepared at the Master’s level that is an expert in a selected clinical area of nursing and collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team. He/she is able to perform advanced or specialized nursing practice and the performance of acts of medical diagnosis and treatment. He/she reports directly to the Director of Patient Care Services with input from the manager of the unit.SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY: NoneNATURE AND SCOPE:This position interacts with physicians, students, nursing and other medical staff, patients and families.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.Acts as a role model by delivering direct nursing care to specific patients and families.Provides nursing consultation to the multidisciplinary team for complex cases, extended lengths of stay, crisis situations and other specialty populations.Demonstrates advanced knowledge of pathophysiology, epidemiological patterns (including emergencies, morbidity and mortality patterns within the specialty area).Participates in orientation and continuing education programs for nursing staff and multidisciplinary personnel, which are relevant to the clinical specialty.Applies advanced clinical expertise (clinical skills) within the context of the nursing process.Participates in the formulation of Standards of Care, Protocols, procedures and structure standards.Participates in and serves as chairperson on hospital committees.Critically analyzes research studies related to area of specialization.Initiates the application of research findings to daily clinical practice.Coordinates and conducts regular nursing care conferences for the purpose of evaluating existing care, developing and updating care plans, teaching nursing staff and appropriate nursing interventions.Provides creative and innovative leadership to members of the nursing staff for the improvement of nursing practice, patient outcome, taking into consideration pertinent professional, economical and social trends.Initiates consultations to other services as authorized.Expedites requests for consultations and assists in scheduling of specialized tests and studies.Provides education and counseling of patient and family in preventative care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed drugs and treatments.Collaborates with the Director and Manager in planning and implementing strategic initiatives.Collaborates with physicians on care planning issues for complex patients.Collaboration with multidisciplinary health team members to provide comprehensive care to inpatient/outpatients.Provides educational programs/information to patients, families and healthcare providers.Provides expertise and support to Practice Council, PI Committee and Educational Councils in assessing the clinical practice environment.Utilizes research findings as a basis for practice and improving processes.Serves as a preceptor for advance practice students.Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional development.Applies knowledge related to growth and development status when interacting with neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.Meets age specific physical and psychosocial needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patents.Uses hospital criteria to report suspected abuse or neglect.Attends in services and is compliant with essential education without prompting from manager.Performs other duties as assigned.CORE COMPETENCIES:Ability to write letters, memos and proposals in a professional manner.Has working knowledge of Standards of Care and Standards of Practice.Long periods of walking and standing.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Master’s Degree in Nursing required.Current license to practice as an ARNP in Florida.Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in clinical specialty area.Direct clinical experience in past five (5) years.Managerial/leadership experience.Current Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross (see department specific grid below for ACLS requirements).ARNP Unit Specific CPR RequirementsUnit/departmentBLSACLSEmergency DeptXXCardiologyXXPulmonaryXXCritical CareXXCardiothoracic SurgeryXXHospitalistXXInterventional NeurologyXXFamily Practice/ Primary CareXUrgent CareXPartner's In Woman's HealthXPre AdmissionsXElectrophysiologyXGastroenterologyXInfectious DiseaseXInternal MedicineXCCIRH IS A DRUG AND NICOTINE FREE WORKPLACEThe policy of Cleveland Clinic and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our employees and applicants for employment in our tobacco free and drug free environment.
