Description: The Director of Design Affordability position is responsible for positively influencing the MFC product design business processes for improved DFx (“Design for X”), including:Producibility, Automation, Six Sigma, Manufacturability, Test, Inspection and Design To Cost (DTC). This position will report into the Vice President of MFC Production Operations.Specific aspects of the role include: Evolve and maintain a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) program that supports LM MFC’s business objectives and strategies. Establish ready, relevant, highly capable and sufficient resources (people, tools and processes) to meet business needs. Lead/manage the LM MFC Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Council which is comprised of 24 Lean Six Sigma POCs from Functions, Lines of Business (LOBs) and Sites (POCs are dotted line into role). Establish annual Lean Six Sigma goals to support MFC Customer and business objectives. Evolve and maintain Lean Six Sigma Training and Mentoring programs that support the development of enough resources to ensure a Lean Six Sigma capability within each Function, Line of Business/Program and Site. Training should evolve to be relevant to MFC needs and coordinated through the LM Corporate Continuous Improvement Sub-council. This effort includes: belt selection criteria and process, planning and conducting classes throughout the enterprise, establishing standards for instructors, maintaining a pipeline of instructors and running a certification program. Continue MFC Leader training and discussions to maximize the benefits and usage of Black Belts in their organization. Influence their selection of future belts. Facilitate company level, strategic (VP and Director level) Structured Improvement Activities. Collaborate with VPs on specific, challenging improvement or problem-solving approaches. Support the LOB VPs by working with the Programs to generate and report Program Excellence and Affordability Plans. Manage and update the existing LSS Tracker System, LSS Website and LSS sharepoints. Participate in LM Corporate Councils to ensure optimization of resources and processes for both the Corporation and MFC.Basic Qualifications:Experience with influencing product design business processes.Experience with project oversight, management and execution.Experience with Manufacturing Operations.Experience in establishing a continuous improvement program.Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or 10+ years of relevant product engineering design and/or product manufacturing experience.Ability to travel.Ability to obtain a secret clearance.Desired Skills:Experience with working on a manufacturing floor – manufacturing engineer, industrial engineer, quality engineer, test engineer, manufacturing supervisor.Experience with both low and high rate production.Experience with products throughout the entire life cycle – development to sustainment.Experience with developing business strategies for selecting and implementing Model Based Engineering solutions.Experience with Risk Management of design, development and production transition.Experience with Data Analytics to optimize processes that increase business efficiency.Experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.Experience with influencing a Supply Chain on improving cost, schedule, quality and throughput.Master’s degree in a technical field.Experience with Earned Value management.Experience with generating model based engineering, drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, product/performance specifications and other technical data.Lean Six Sigma deployment experience.Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification.Active secret clearance.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:job.QualificationsLockheed Martin is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
