Job DescriptionBAE Systems is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support complex system integration and modification to both rotary and fixed winged military and commercial aircraft.Job Description:To apply knowledge of and experience with engineering principles and techniques to develop moderately complex specifications and procedures, develop and analyze designs, and evaluate technical reports.Conducts research concerned with design, manufacture and test of components, equipment and systems, including application of equipment to new uses.Prepares airworthiness reports and documentation for complex engineering designs and aircraft installations.Corrects drawings to ensure that products are in accordance with proper engineering techniques and specifications.Verifies activities concerned with installation and operational test of moderately complex engineering designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements.Evaluates operational systems and recommends design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunction or changes in system requirements.Estimates costs and schedules by reviewing statements of work for new and revised projects.Assists in the preparation of proposals and presentations.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Skills and EducationBachelor s Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET - accredited institution.Minimum of five (5) years direct experience in direct FAA or Military aviation engineering.Experience should include some combination of aircraft repair, overhaul, modifications, and/or sustainment.Required Skills and Education:Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and installation engineering drawings.Knowledge of design, integration, and testing activities associated with aircraft installations.Knowledge of airworthiness standard (MIL-HDBK-516C) and required activities.Experience with aircraft loads analysis, static strength, stiffness, failure prediction, durability (fatigue) and thermal analysis.Experience with environmental testing per MIL-STD-810F.Experience with analysis methods to include industry standard finite element analysis.Familiar with AutoCAD and3-D Modeling Techniques (CATIA / Solidworks).Experience with the application of industry standard design practices and processes to provide product definition and level III technical data packages.Working knowledge of mechanical systems and concepts.About BAE Systems Intelligence & SecurityBAE Systems Intelligence & Security, based in McLean, Virginia, designs and delivers advanced defense, intelligence, and security solutions that support the important missions of our customers.
