Gardener Overview:
The Gardeners job is to support the Lead Horticulturist in maintaining client gardens to a botanic garden level of care as efficiently and thoroughly as possible in the time allowed by clients. This includes deadheading, pruning, trimming, and training plants; hand weeding and spot spraying as needed; fertilizing, amending soil through composting and other means; planting seasonal annuals, containers, & other garden areas as needed; monitoring irrigation & lighting systems for problems, and ensuring client gardens look their best.

A Gardener is an important role at Artful Exteriors because your support of the Horticulture team helps keep our accounts looking their best. Showing the client that we have a great work ethic, excellent pace of work on top a good attitude will only improve our relationships, ensuring we are the ones taking care of them for many years.
Come to work each day prepared to do any type of gardening activities. On hand you should always have gloves (if you use them), closed-toed shoes, pruning and digging tools and other related gardening supplies such as stakes & ties, fertilizer & sprayer, trash bags, broom, shovel, rakes, etc. Tools and supplies are provided by Artful Exteriors, and we provide one pair of work boots per year and of course any safety equipment such as ear and eye protection and gloves.
Lunches are usually taken on site. Please bring enough food and water to keep you going all day.
Gardening in SW Florida is a gardeners paradise. Its possible to grow plants from all over the country here because of our unique climate. We have a wet summer and a dry winter, with temperatures ranging from the high 30s to high 90s.
If a client asks a question you dont know the exact answer just tell them youll get back to them instead of guessing. Our clients are very understanding and know far less than you will about gardening down here.
If clients need services beyond the scope of regular gardening (such as landscaping), please inform your supervisor so we can set up design consults.
As a member of our gardening staff you should be able to perform physical labor on a daily basis. This physical labor includes bending, kneeling, lifting (50 lbs), pulling, digging, sweeping, reaching, etc, for 8-10 hours a day.
We support the continuing education of our staff. We have reference materials for your use and we encourage you to enroll in horticulture education courses.
General Work Information:
Work Day: Flexible, but typically Mon-Fri 8-4,30 with breaks
Breaks: 15 minute paid morning break, 30 minute unpaid lunch, 15 minute afternoon break or a 30 minute paid lunch if morning & afternoon breaks are taken back to back
Pay: Hourly, paid bi-weekly
Must be authorized to work in the US and pass a background check.
