UMFS is a nonprofit agency that provides a comprehensive array of programs to meet the
needs of high-risk children and parents to enable them to overcome challenging circumstances
and succeed.
UMFS Leland House locataed in Centreville, VA is seeking a F/T Evening Youth Counselor,
providing short-term (up to 45 days) intervention and stabilization for children ages 12 to 17 in
Fairfax County who are in crisis and cannot remain in their home or current residential setting.

EDUCATION & OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in human services related area or equivalent combination of education
and experience.
Six months of experience working in a residential treatment setting, or with high-risk
youth /families preferred.
Bilingual Spanish language is preferred.
SIGHT AND SOUND SUPERVISION and THERAPEUTIC ENGAGEMENT
Provide supervision to youth in close proximity to hear and see them at all times.
Show an interest in clients by interacting with them regarding their day, and have a
working knowledge of their background, family and community.
Actively engage with youth in therapeutic residential and recreation activities.
Understand treatment and program philosophy and implement when interacting
with youth.
Effectively follow recreation schedule.
PHYSICAL INTERVENTION
In the event of an immediate threat, use appropriate Mandt techniques to intervene and
deescalate including physical restraint if necessary.
Responsible for contacting nurse and on call if a physical restraint has occurred including
completing any required documentation and notification of guardian.
CRISIS AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
Respond adequately to emergencies and potentially unsafe situations with clients.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide emergency coverage for sickness, vacations, and during times of special need.
Other duties as assigned.
