Hola Cultura is a vibrant; multifaceted nonprofit based in Washington, DC, that celebrates the culture and contributions of Latinos in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. We produce media coverage of Latino culture, conduct original research, and host events that showcase our diverse community. Through this work, we strive to lift up Latino voices, break down barriers, and promote cross-cultural understanding while, at the same time, mentoring and tutoring the young Latino population.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (S.I.P.)

The program brings together college interns with economically isolated and vulnerable young people, ages 16 to 24, enrolled in the DC Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP). Led by the S.I.P. Supervisor, participants receive training and then work together to conduct a Special Research Project. The MBSYEP participants work directly with the college interns, who serve as one-on-one peer mentors. Through training workshops, professional development field trips, hands-on work sessions, and public presentations, the Summer Internship Program provides participants with the necessary tools and skills in effective communication, leadership and professional development to become agents of change in their communities. The program is centered on research and production of high-quality digital media published on Hola Culturas online platform, www.holacultura.com . Interns also make free public presentations of summer research highlights. The design of the program is founded on critical soft skills: creative confidence, innovation, self-awareness, storytelling, time management, and collaboration.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Summer Internship Program Supervisor coordinates, facilitates and supervises the diverse activities of the Program. The Supervisor will use his/her creativity, caring, and organizational skills to facilitate all aspects of running the summer program, fostering motivation from participants. The ideal candidate has experience working with training programs and is comfortable leading groups of youth, building rapport with others, and maintaining patience and composure with unforeseen circumstances. The candidate is fully bilingual in English/Spanish.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plans and implements daily work sessions with co-facilitators and invited guests in accordance with the selected special research plan. Arranges creative and engaging activities and weekly professional development field trips for participants. Arrives to all sessions on time and prepared. ¨

2. Keep participants well informed of program activities. Compiles necessary material for program sessions as well as for progress report meetings with Hola Culturas personnel. ¨

3. Assists HC staff in selection of eligible participants (15-20) through established channels. ¨

4. Effectively manages the relationship with the facility where the program is implemented. ¨

5. Maintains regular contact with Hola Cultura staff and volunteers and assists with the production of program reports for donors and other constituencies. ¨

6. Attends and actively participates in required trainings, meetings and presentations. ¨

7. Supports Hola Culturas mission and values. Looks for ways to improve the program and works in alignment with Hola Culturas strategic goals. Brings best self to the program and shares ideas and suggestions. ¨

8. Conducts pre- and post-participant assessments. ¨

9. Updates program materials as needed. ¨

10. Performs other duties as assigned, required, or needed. ¨

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

— ÂCollege degree is required. ¨

— ÂPrior experience working with youth or community outreach/enrichment ¨programs required. ¨

— ÂFamiliarity with instructional design desirable. ¨

— ÂExperience with community organizing and/or leading public service ¨campaigns desirable.

SCHEDULE

— ÂThe S.I.P. will run from June 3, 2019 “ August 9, 2019, with weekday sessions (M-F from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) from June 24 to Aug. 2; plus flexible, remote work and planning meetings in June and August. The program location will be in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC. ¨

— ÂThe Summer Internship Program Supervisor will be hired as a part-time contractor. Total contract fee is $3,000. The contract for the selected candidate will run from June 3, 2019 through August 9, 2019 (10 weeks). Compensation will be made in two payments, with the first payment at the end of Week Five and the remainder paid upon completion of the program and the final report.
