An innovative urban DC Middle/High School, has an immediate opening for a part-time Extended Day Program Coordinator.

EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM

Our Extended Day Program at our campus plays a critical role in the development of young peoples social, emotional and academic skills, with over 20 professionals working daily to meet the individual needs of each student and the expectations of every family. The program provides a safe, enriching and fun environment from noon to 5:30 for over 400 middle and high school students.

An integral part of our school community, Extended Day supports our campus educational mission by:

Offering daily opportunities for students to participate in asset-building activities and experiences

Instilling feelings of value, competence and confidence in each child

Building positive relationships with children, families and the community

Valuing the cultural diversity of the students

Providing a high level of customer service to meet the needs of families

Hiring and training qualified and experienced staff

DIRECT REPORTS AND CORE JOB FUNCTION

The Program Coordinator will report to the Campus Leader and the After School Program Director. The Extended Day Coordinator will act as the liaison between school staff and faculty, parents, and students with regard to the transition between in school and after school programming. The Extended Day Coordinator supervises student activities, attendance, consistently and confidently draws the behavior for students in the program, enforces rules, and disciplines accordingly.

EXTENDED DAY COORDINATION TASKS

1. Arrives at noon from Monday through Friday in order to prep and schedule staff for daily programming.

2. In collaboration with the school administrators, review and audit the current master schedule for accuracy, make sure that every student is in the class they should be in, and is receiving a grade for the correct class. Transfer the master schedule to an application that is flexible to be updated with external staff

3. Meet with middle school admin weekly to update them on status, and plan collaboratively

4. Review information on teacher absences, and plan to remove teachers who are absent too often from their class

5. Recruit and identify additional teachers both internal and external, on an ongoing basis, to maintain all classes with a teacher. Ensure all external teachers are vetted by DCPS processes

6. Conduct a quarterly survey of students, to see if they are in the classes they are interested in

7. Arrive around 12, and immediately check to see who is absent and what classes need to be covered.

8. Create a DAILY document that indicates who will cover each class and send that document to all middle school admin and counselors, AND post it in a prominent place in the hallway for students to see. Create signs to place on the door of the class which has been moved or has a substitute. Arrange for an afternoon announcement of which classes have subs or have been moved.

9. Serve as contact to receive all students who still may not have a class at 3:15 and have one of the subs conduct a structured study hall or other activity.

10. Conduct walk throughs of all classes and take notes on attendance, quality of instruction.

11. Conduct a meeting every two weeks of all after school staff, and middle school admin, to review what is going well, and what needs to be adjusted.

12. Ensure all requirements of the grants are being met, in terms of numbers, SPED enrollment, and quality of instruction, prepare all grant reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Education or Social Work preferred

Two years experience with administrative work in a school setting

Experience working with school-aged children

Strong oral and written communication in English

Ability to build relationships with school staff, volunteers, parents and children

Experience working with persons with special needs;

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), Google Drive, and Adobe.

Detail-oriented and innovated

Good at multi-tasking, flexible, working with others

Bilingual Spanish-English skills strongly preferred

A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement

A belief that all students can learn at a high level and should be held to high academic standards
