Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.Summary: Facebook’s Threat Discovery team is seeking a highly talented and motivated Security Engineer Intern with experience in open source investigations, data science, and developing creative scripting solutions. The team works on proactively understanding the global threat landscape as it manifests in the real world and transfers that knowledge to our investigations of threat actors on our platform. An intern on Threat Discovery will have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging, complex, and high-visibility security risks the company is facing. This position offers the opportunity to have a substantial impact; project deliverables will affect Facebook’s billions of users. This position is located in Washington, DC and will begin in Summer 2020.Required Skills:

Support and scale investigations into Facebook and Instagram accounts to identify sources of abusive behavior

Collect and exploit open-source data to make informed decisions about on-platform activity

Gather, synthesize and analyze relevant data, suggesting improvements in the tools and techniques to help scale the team and mitigate future risk

Minimum Qualifications:

Passion for understanding and disrupting complex and emerging threats, including terrorism, nation-state espionage, ecrime, child safety, and information operations

Knowledge of developing and debugging in object-oriented programming languages, i.e. PHP, Java, etc.

Ability to write complex scripts to manipulate large data sets and process unstructured data. Python strongly preferred

Familiarity with SQL

Experience working with and integrating RESTful APIs

Experience building or developing tools to programmatically gather open source information

Experience with online and open source investigations

Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis and engineering systems in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.

Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship/co-op

Preferred Qualifications:

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in related field.

Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship.

Contributions to the security community are a plus (public research, blogging, presentations, etc.)

Experience with Machine Learning.
