Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.Summary: Facebook's Threat Discovery team is looking for highly talented and motivated Security Analyst Intern with experience in investigating and analyzing online threat actors and their activity. The team works on proactively understanding the global threat landscape as it manifests in the real world and transfers that knowledge to our investigations of threat actors on our platform. An Intern will have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging, complicated, and high-visibility security risks the company is facing. The potential for impact with this work is substantial, as outcomes could affect the billions of people who use our products. The perfect candidate will have an investigative background, experience in quantitative analysis and data-driven decision making, and experience working on odr studying violent extremist organizations. It is highly important candidates are focused on results, and are self-starters.This position is located in Washington, DC and will begin in Summer 2020.Required Skills:

Identify and investigate online bad actors with the interest and capability to target Facebook and its users.

Summarize and present information from investigations and reports to internal teams - Help to build and chart networks to stop abuse.

Support technical investigations by effectively communicating actionable results to different audience types.

Engage constructively in projects that combine teams from many departments.

Work with outside experts to enhance internal data and investigations.

Address sensitive content issues, including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, and other objectionable material.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of – or eagerness to learn – query or scripting languages (SQL, Python, R) to manipulate, transform, and analyze data.

Experience with understanding violent extremist ideologies, organizations, pathways to radicalization, and identifying associated actors and their networkson and off of Facebook.

Experience with online and open source investigations: internet-based research tools: and relational databases.

Interest in performing complex link and social network analysis based in concert with thorough online investigations.

A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data

Comfortable analyzing complex, high volume, high dimensionality data from varying sources.

Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.

Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship/co-op.

Preferred Qualifications:

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in related field.

Additional language skills beyond English.

Experience with business data analytics like creating and monitoring metrics, and building dashboards.

Familiarity with Tableau or other data visualization tools.

Comfortable working with large data sets or distributed computing tools is a plus (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc).
