SEIU (Service Employees International Union)Job Title: Operations Manager Grade: MGT C - Starting Salary: $84,466/ YRLocation: Washington, DCPurpose of Position:This position, as a member of the Political Department Team, is responsible for a broad range of financial and operational functions in the Political Department including monitoring the budget, and assuring all staff adheres to SEIU administrative policy and procedures and office is operating at optimal efficiency.Principal Duties and Responsibilities: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)Perform a wide range of duties assigned by the International Union, including but not limited to the following:

Monitors the budget on a regular basis including reviewing employee generated costs, campaign expenses and reimbursement to locals. Identifies areas to streamline, reduce expenses and implement changes; provides support to Local Unions and Political Department field campaigns on operational needs such as budget, personnel issues, etc.

Serves as Political Department CLIF Director: tracks compliance, legal, infrastructure and finance components of political program to ensure everything is managed and operationalized efficiently and that all finance, logistical and reporting processes and deadlines are being adhered to and met.

Participates in and helps develop budget preparation for Political Department including support to Local Unions and Political Department field campaigns.

Participates in all Department and Program Team meetings to ensure the programmatic and operations components are aligned and coordinating well with each other. Also assists with agenda development and structure of department and program team meetings.

Supervises and appropriately delegates work and assignments to administrative support staff, temporary staff and interns. Also manages development and performance management to above-mentioned staff.

Coordinates with Political Department managers and Human Resources regarding all staff issues, including hiring, development, promotions, terminations, leave, etc.

Manages facilities and space for the Political Department offices including distribution of office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, pagers, cell phone, etc.

Handles inquiries and negotiates prices with vendors, and handles all contracts and paperwork within the Department associated with Political Department billing.

Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission including leadership and strategy development role within the Political Department civic engagement program.

Contacts:Includes SEIU staff, affiliate staff, local union officials, Political Department field staff and other coalitionsDirection and Decision Making:This position reports to the Deputy National Political Director for Finance and Operations and the incumbent works independently.Education and Experience:B.A. degree or at least 3 years of supervisory experience and 5 years of related work experience or combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Thorough knowledge of labor unions and operations.

Thorough knowledge of administrative operations.

Through knowledge of financial records.

Ability to develop, monitor and control budget.

Ability to manage, plan, develop, and lead staff.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to work independently and develop and maintain relationships with all levels of staff both headquarters and field.

Skilled in the use of personal computer including software for tracking budgets and disbursements.

This position requires a high level of judgment, leadership and commitment to the goals of SEIU and its leaders.

Physical Requirements:Work is generally performed in an office setting, but job may require work in the field or in other settings to perform the tasks required to complete assignments.
