Join us and together we will drive the future of health care .This is an exceptional opportunity to do innovative work that means more to you and those we serve at one of America's leading health benefits companies and a Fortune Top 50 Company.Underwriting Policy & Monitoring Director (Small Group)Preferred Location: St. Louis, MOAlternate Locations: Open to any available office within CA, CO, CT, GA, IN, KY, ME, MO, NV, NH, NY, OH, VA, WI, or MNThe Underwriting Policy & Monitoring Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring underwriting policies, guidelines, tools and processes for commercial small group business across the enterprise. This position will be instrumental to building a small group underwriting center of excellence to drive expansion of Anthem’s small group market leadership across all Anthem properties and will significantly impact financial and membership growth success of the company.Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

Establishes and maintains consistent underwriting policies and guidelines for small group business.

Collaborates with sales, actuarial, IT and operational teams to ensure that underwriting capabilities are appropriately integrated with end-to-end processes and tools to allow for appropriate risk evaluation and financial controls to support optimal profit and membership growth.

Provides consulting services to local underwriters, sales staff, and Legal and Government Relations.

Develops training tools and facilitates training sessions for local underwriters and sales staff.

Participates in the development of a strategic plan for the Division.

Monitors financial and membership results across all states.

Monitors adherence to the underwriting internal controls that have been established in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley testing and to the prospect and renewal rating formulas across the Local Group Business MBU.

Performs numerous testing activities across the Local Group Business MBU to verify that changes in underwriting practice are not negatively impacting business results and to ensure that approved underwriting policies and procedures are being followed.

Qualifications:

Requires a BA/BS; 8 years of related health insurance experience including an in-depth knowledge of underwriting policies and procedures, rating methodologies and risk assessment; experience working with sales, actuarial, IT and operational teams to enhance the business processes and systems; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Masters preferred.

Proficient in MS Excel required.

Experience with, and strong understanding of risk evaluation.

Product management experience helpful.
