Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.QualificationsApplicants must first meet the Basic Education Qualification Requirements listed below:Degree: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or a bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. Specialized Experience Requirements:In addition to the basic education requirement, in order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that the applicant meets the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 in Federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as:-developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses;-analyzing or evaluating new processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards in industrial workplaces;-inspecting industrial workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards;-training of workers, supervisors, managers, in safety or occupational health subjects. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Applicants will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
